It was among the communities severely affected by flash flooding from Hurricane Camille in 1969.Lovingston is part of the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Lovingston High School, Lovingston Historic District, and the Nelson County Courthouse are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
