Lowman is a small unincorporated rural census-designated place in the western United States, located in Boise County, Idaho. It is nestled along the north bank of the South Fork of the Payette River in the central part of the state, at an elevation of 3,800 feet above sea level. As of the 2010 census, its population was 42.Eighty miles from Boise on State Highway 21, the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, Lowman is at the junction with the Banks-Lowman Highway; now designated Highway 2512A.     The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is a National Recreation Area located in central Idaho, United States that is managed as part of Sawtooth National Forest. The recreation area, established on August 22, 1972, is managed by the U.S. Forest Service, and includes the Sawtooth, Hemingway–Boulders, and Cecil D. Andrus–White Clouds wilderness areas. Activities within the 730,864-acre recreation area include hiking, backpacking, White water rafting, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, and hunting.The SNRA headquarters are about seven miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. SNRA also has a ranger station in Stanley, near its northern boundary.
