Lüdinghausen is a town in the district of Coesfeld in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the Dortmund-Ems Canal, approx. 25 km south-west of Münster. It is known for its three castles, Castle Luedinghausen, Kakesbeck and Vischering Castle. Lüdinghausen was founded in the thirteenth century and received its first city charter around 1308.Lüdinghausen has been paired as a Sister City with Deerfield, Illinois in the US as well as with Nysa in Poland and Taverny in France.

This region has one of the highest German concentrations of castles, palaces and fortifications, Lüdinghausen having three by itself. The castle consists of outer defensive courtyard, defensive gateways, moat, drawbridge, main building and chapel. The sandstone walls, the red tile roofs as well as their reflection in the moat provide many harmonious views from the wooded surroundings. Vischering Castle was built by Bischop Gerhard von der Mark to counter the second castle built by the Von Lüdinghausen family. It became the seat of the Droste zu Vischering Family. The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

The medieval Vischering Castle is a horseshoe shaped structure in the town of Vischering, Germany.

It was initially constructed in the 13th century by Bishop Gerhard von der Mark when he decided to build a fortress to compete with another family's castle.

The castle's architecture reflects that of the feudal age and is made primarily of sandstone and red tile.

The three-storied building is securely situated within a moat that is fed by a nearby river.

After a fire in the 1520s, the castle went through a period of reconstruction but still retains its drawbridge, courtyard and chapel.

As a result of its sturdy construction and location the castle escaped World War Two with only minor damage.

Wenn der Herbst die Bäume kahl gemacht hat und die Erde braun darnieder liegt, da wird einem warm ums Herz, wenn es schneit und anschließend die Sonne den Schnee zum Glitzern bringt. Und auch die Stadt glänzt wie lange nicht. Mein Spaziergang führte mich durch Striesen, entlang der Elbe zur Altstadt und über die Weihnachtsmärkte zum Großen Garten. Dresden - ein Wintermärchen.
