Shillong, the capital of medhalaya, has been one of the most popular tourist destinations in the northeast india. It is situated at an attitude of 1,520 meters (4,990 feet) above sea level. It is situated on a plateau bound on the north by the Umiam gorge, on the northwest by the great mass of the Diengiei Hills that rise up to a height of 1,823 meters (6077 ft.) above sea level, and on the northeast by the hills of the Assam valley. It is also known as the Scotland of the East due to its striking similarity with the Scottish highlands. It is located at distance of 104 km from Guwahati, 295 km from Kaziranga, 578 km from Siliguri and 658 km from Darjeeling.

1. Shillong Peak :
Shillong Peak, Shillong Overview. At the height of 6449 ft and 1965 m above sea level, this is the highest point of Shillong. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, the Himalayas, its waterfalls as well as of the Bangladesh plains. A telescope is available for tourists to get a bird's eye view.
2. Umiam Lake :
Umiam Lake is a reservoir located in the hills 15 km to the North of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya, India. It was created by damming the Umiam river in the early 1960s. The principal catchment area of the lake and dam is spread over 220 square km.
3. Elephant Falls :
A popular tourist attraction near Shillong, Elephant falls is a combination of 3 rivers. One of the British officers named it as Elephant falls after they saw a rock which resembled as an elephant. This rock was later destroyed due to earthquake.
4. Mawlynnong village :
Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya state in North East India. It is famous for its cleanliness and natural attraction. It comes under the Pynursla community development block and Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) constituency.
5. Ward's Lake :
Ward's lake is a must-visit place when in this pristine north-eastern city. Also known as Pollock's Lake, this artificial water body is encircled by an extensive lush garden and lies in the middle of the city.
6. Lady Hydari Park :
The Park got its name from the nature loving first lady of the state, Lady Hydari the wife of Governor of Assam. This mini zoo clubbed with a deer park stretches for more than one Kilometre and presents some of the best grown rose beds.
7. Don Bosco Museum :
The Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous Cultures at DBCIC (Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures) is Asia's largest Museum of Indigenous Cultures of its kind. In it the visitor can have an overview of the whole of North East India.
8. Laitlum Canyons :
Adore the picturesque Shillong from Laitlum canyons; a wonderful spot covered in mystical mist and fog. The view point is one of the most popular and sought after attractions for adventure and nature lovers. It allures thousands of people from all parts of the world.
9. Mawphlang Sacred Forest :
Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a protected area situated in the East Khasi Hills of Shillong. Also known as Law Lyngdoh, it is preserved by the natives since ancient times as a part of their religious beliefs, in which forests are considered as a sacred entity.
10. Khasi Heritage Village :
A model village located about 1 hour from Shillong town showcasing culture and heritage of Khasis in Meghalaya.

Shillong is a hill station in northeast India and capital of the state of Meghalaya. It’s known for the manicured gardens at Lady Hydari Park. Nearby, Ward’s Lake is surrounded by walking trails. MEGHALAYA: Top 10 Tourist Attractions MUST See | Meghalaya Tourism
In this video you know everything about Top 10 Tourist Attractions to SEE in MEGHALAYA.
1. Shillong Peak
Shillong Peak is the highest point of Shillong and offers panoramic views of the city, the waterfalls, the Himalayas, the lush green surroundings as well as the Bangladesh plains. It is located at a distance of 10 km southwards of the main city. The peak has an impressive height of 1962 m, above the sea level.
2. Elephant Falls
Elephant Falls was the British name of what the local Khasi people once referred to as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew ( Three Steps Waterfalls) since the falls actually consisted of three sections in succession. We learned from a sign here that the British renamed the falls because there used to be a rock resembling an elephant near the left side of the main falls . However, that rock was destroyed in an earthquake back in 1897.
3. 7 Sisters falls
Nohsngithiang Falls, also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or Mawsmai Falls, is a seven-segmented waterfall located 1 kilometre south of Mawsmai village in East Khashi Hills. The water falls from a height of 315 metres and has an average width of 70 metres making it one of the tallest Waterfalls in India. The waterfalls get illuminated by the sun and the vibrant colors of the setting sun on the waterfalls makes it beautiful.
4. Nohkalikai Falls
Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Its height is 1115 feet. The waterfall is located near Cherapunjee, one of the wettest places on Earth.
5. Mawsmai Cave
Revered as one of the most popular and notable landmarks in Cherrapunji is Mawsmai cave. Situated around 6 Kms from Cherrapunjee. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable tourists to enjoy the natural formations in awe. Though the caves are long, only a distance of 150 meters is open for tourists, while the other section is closed.
6. Dawki River
Dawki or Dauki is a town in West Jayantia Hills District, Meghalaya. The small border town of Dawki has the famous river Umngot which is a major tourist destination in Meghalaya. Dawki lies between India and Bangladesh and is the trade hub between the two countries. This small city is also famous for its famous Umngot river and a beautiful bridge.
7. Double Decker Root Bridge
In the adjacent village of Nongriat two such living bridges have been created by weaving and inter-twine roots of the same banyan tree. It has come to be referred to as Jingkieng Nongriat or more commonly Double Decker.
8. Cleanest Village of Asia
Mawlynnong Village has earned the distinction of being the cleanest village in Asia. It is situated 90 kms. from Shillong and besides the picturesque village, offers many interesting sights such as the living root bridge and another strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock.
9. Tagore’s House and Gallery
Nobel laureates Rabindranath Tagore visited Shillong on three occasions. The Brookside bungalow, where Rabindranath Tagore stayed during his visit to Shillong in October 1919, has been renamed as the Rabindranath Art Gallery by the Meghalaya Government.
10. Police Bazar
Police Bazar is a one-stop market for every kind of tourist visiting Shillong. It offers several kinds of opportunities for shopping and entertainment.
