Georges Méliès , a French filmmaker and magician, made a variety of short actuality films between 1896 and 1900. Méliès was established as a magician with his own theater-of-illusions, the Théâtre Robert-Houdin in Paris, when he attended the celebrated first public demonstration of the Lumière Brothers' Kinetoscope in December 1895. Unable to purchase a camera from the Lumières, who insisted that the venture had no future, he bought a film projector and some films from the British film experimenter Robert W. Paul and began projecting them at the Théâtre Robert-Houdin. Meanwhile, Méliès studied the principles on which Paul's projector ran, and in 1896 was able to modify the machine so that it could be used as a makeshift camera. Parc Astérix is a theme amusement park in France, based on the comic book series Asterix . With two million visitors yearly, Parc Asterix is the second theme park near Paris after Disneyland and its 11 million visitors yearly. It is situated approximately 35 km north of Paris, 32 km from Disneyland Paris and 20 km from the historic Château de Chantilly, in the commune of Plailly, in the département of Oise. Opened in 1989, the park is operated by Compagnie des Alpes. It is especially well known in France for its large variety of roller coasters , and has begun incorporating rides and themes from historic cultures such as the Gauls, the Romans, the ancient Greeks and recently the Egyptians, but always in the visual style of the stories.

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a baroque French château located in Maincy, near Melun, 55 kilometres southeast of Paris in the Seine-et-Marne département of France. Built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV, the château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. At Vaux-le-Vicomte, the architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on a large-scale project for the first time. Their collaboration marked the beginning of the Louis XIV style combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. The garden's pronounced visual axis is an example of this style.

The Château de Chantilly is a historic château located in the town of Chantilly, France, about 50 kilometers north of Paris. The site comprises two attached buildings: the Petit Château built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency, and the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s. Owned by the Institut de France, the château houses the Musée Condé. It is one of the finest art galleries in France and is open to the public.

Last month we travelled to France on a road trip for a few days. We stayed in Le Touquet (my favourite place in Northern France) and visited Amiens, Abbeville and Montreuil-sur-mer. We didn't need to travel far from Calais for a quintessentially French holiday!

I feel quite lucky to live in the south east of England, which means travelling to France is quite easy and only an hour or so away! France is also a country I love to travel in, so I hope that comes through in my video.
