The Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München is a brewery in Munich, Germany, owned by the Bavarian state government. The Hof comes from the brewery's history as a royal brewery in the Kingdom of Bavaria. The brewery owns the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, the Hofbräukeller and one of the largest tents at the Oktoberfest . There are many types of beer brewed using original recipes handed down by Wilhelm V, the Duke of Bavaria. The current beers produced include a Weißbier and Helles, Maibock, Dunkel and Oktoberfest lagers. The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl in Munich inspired the song oans, zwoa, g'suffa .

1. U-Bahn - It's rare to want to take a metro ride just to see the stations, but in Munich it is worth it. The station stops are colorful and make for great photo shoot locations.

2. Marienplatz - The central plaza where you can watch the bell tower come alive with the Glockenspiel, which plays three times a day.

3. Hofbräuhaus - History, beer, traditions... and cool architecture too.

4. Max-Joseph Platz - The central square where you can find the royal residence and opera house. It is marked by the central statue of Maximilian who ruled Bavaria.

Oktoberfest - This festival occurs from the last two weekends of September to the first weekend of October to commemorate the wedding of King Ludwig I, which was so extraordinary that they decided to celebrate it each year - and hence Oktoberfest was born. I went last year and the spirit of the festival, unity of people from around the world, and celebration of Bavarian culture was unmatched by any other festival.

1. There is more than just the Hofbrauhaus Beer hall. There are tons of great places to try a local beer in Munich. Don't feel like you only have to go to the most touristy (but still very fun one).
2. There is more than Beer in Munich. Munich has one of the best collections of museums in Germany so get some culture with that bratwurst!
3. Use the Bayern Ticket to go explore the towns around Munich. You can see Salzburg, Regensburg, Nuremberg, Bamberg and more! Neuschwanstein, the Disney looking castle.
4. The Glockenspiel goes off at 11am and noon each day as well as at 5pm from March to October.
5. Book accommodation early to save money and book early for big festivals like Oktoberfests. And Munich is pricier than other parts of Germany so be ready for that.
