Day 9: Istanbul, Turkey - This was a day of sightseeing at some of the most famous attractions in Istanbul that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. And the read highlight of the day for me was the incredible Turkish food, especially the kebabs.
Museum Pass Istanbul - 85 TRY ($28.88) - Before getting started with the things we did in this video, I purchased a Museum Pass for Istanbul, which granted me access to a few of the attractions without having to stand in line. I’m not sure if I really saved much money, but it did save time.
2:00 Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) - Our first stop of the day in this attractions in Istanbul video was the Sultan Ahmet Camii, which is commonly known as the Blue Mosque due to its blue tiles on the inside. We actually arrived a little too early in the morning, so they were not open yet, so we walked around the Hippodrome of Constantinople for a few minutes. When the Blue Mosque opened, we went inside. Both inside and outside are incredible to see.
5:37 Hagia Sophia - One of the most famous pieces of architecture in all of Istanbul and one of the most famous attractions is Hagia Sophia. It started off as a church, later became a mosque, and now it’s an official museum. After entering, you can walk around the main room, but the highlight of visiting Hagia Sophia for me was walking up to the upper galleries for some amazing views from above.
8:24 Topkapi Palace - Finally, one more of the most famous attractions in Istanbul, and located right in the same area as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is Topkapi Palace, which was an Ottoman Palace. You can walk around the gardens and palace structures, which are now galleries. I especially enjoyed the Imperial Harem, which was a section of the palace reserved for women, and the best preserved area of the palace.
11:25 Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab (Şehzade Cağ Kebap) - There are many different types of Turkish food, and cag kebab is a type of kebab from Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. According some some men I met while eating the amazing kebabs, this is the best restaurant for cag kebab in all of Istanbul. The type of kebab is made from lamb, and instead of being on a vertical skewer like other types of kebabs, it’s grilled on a horizontal skewer. The meat is cooked with wood fire, and slice off onto smaller skewers to be served. If you get a chance to try cag kebab, it’s an absolutely stunning Turkish food. The entire meal was delicious, but the best part was meeting the owner of Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab and eating a slice of the meat right off the roll hot and fresh. Out entire meal cost 85 TL ($28.88).
20:34 Basilica Cistern - 20 TRY ($6.80) - Arter the amazing Turkish food lunch, we headed over to see the Basilica cistern, one of many underground cisterns in Istanbul. It was interesting to see. We then headed to the hotel for a rest, and then went out again for dinner.
23:27 Dinner at Balkan Lokantasi - Beşiktaş is a neighborhood in Istanbul and we walked over to a restaurant for dinner in that neighborhood called Balkan Lokantasi. It was an extremely busy restaurant serving all sorts of different Turkish food in a cafeteria like style. You walk through the line, choose whatever dishes you want, and pay for what you get. You can eat a serious feast for a pretty good price. I got a little confused and didn’t really know what I was doing, so ended up ordering what was way too much food. But that’s alright, it was all really delicious.
It was fantastic day of Turkish food and visiting some attractions in Istanbul that I had wanted to visit my entire life.

Security forces are doing their best to protect visitors to these areas, but tourists must take caution when visiting these places. They have to give their itinerary and plans to the local police before taking the road.

Also, you should trust only official travel advisories when it comes to personal safety when you travel to a foreign country.

Algiers is the capital city of Algeria, on the country’s Mediterranean coast. The Best Hotels in Belek, Turkey
Belek is a township with own municipality in Serik district in Turkey's Antalya Province. Belek is one of the centers of Turkey's tourism industry and is as such home to more than thirty four-star and five-star hotels and many other accommodation, services and entertainment facilities. Anıtkabir or Ataturk Mausoleum is situated in the Ankara, which is the capital of Turkey and home to one of the country’s most significant masterpieces. This notable example of modern Turkish architecture was decorated by Turkish great architect Emin Onat and erected between 1944 and 1953.
WHO WAS MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK?
Being nationalist leader of Turkish people and founder, Atatürk is the first president of the republic of Turkey. He is not only important for Turks but also the other people from many different countries. When he died on 10th November 1938, his body moved to Etnography while Anıtkabir was building.
THE BUILDING STORY OF ANITKABIR
Ataturk did not say anything where he wanted to be buried before he died. However, while he was conversing with his friends, he stated that of course I will die someday. If I die, Çankaya (a province of Ankara) is very good location for my grave. Because of that, the Turkish people tried to fulfil his request in order to reflect their love and respect against him.
HISTORY
Once upon a time there were many Phrygian graves (the ruins of tumulus) belonging to B.C XII century in today’s Anıtkabir. Within those tombs includes valuable goods but later they were sent to the Archaeological Museum.
Its place was determined by Turkish deputy Mithat Aydın and the Turk committee of the period. Rasattepe with 906 altitudes was chosen for that famous Ataturk's tomb. Moreover, there was regulated an international competition by the same committee in 1941. Totally 47 countries with valuable projects such as Turkey, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, Czechoslovakia were participated in this contest.
At last the projects belonging to Professor Emin Onat and Associate Professor Orhan Arda were accepted. The construction of Anıtkabir was firstly begun in 1944 but later it was completed in 1953.
ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES
Anıtkabir consists of four separate sections;
In the First Section: It was made the adjustment of land level for the tomb. Additionally, the Reliance Wall was built on the lion road leaning down Ataturk’s mausoleum. It was completed in one year.
In the Second Part: It covers the area of tomb, ceremony and around buildings added later. Also the project of monument’s mass had been planned within that place. Entry towers and an important section of that fascinating organization were finished here. Surrogated by many various trees such as Acacias, Ash Threes, Elm, Honeysuckle, Silverberry and Tamarisk Trees, that location contains the water system which creates a ravishing atmosphere. It takes 5 years.
In the Third Place: The roads meeting the monument and Lion Road were finished in that space. The Parade (Ceremony) Ground and the tomb were furnished here. Moreover, the steps of stairs were made in that location.
The Last Section: It is the last grade of the building breath-taking Anıtkabir. Honour Hall and the vaults were built here. That part was ornamented with the amazing stone profiles and eaves motifs which reflect Seljuk and Italian architectural syles.
Covering 15 m2 areas, Anıtkabir is surrogated Istiklal (Liberty) and Hurriyet (Independence) Towers, Lion Road, Mehmetçik, Müdafa-I Hukuk, Republic, Victory, Revolution, Misak-I Milli (National Pact) and 23 April Towers.
ATATURK MUSEUM
Located on the Anıtkabir, that glorious museum consists of Ataturk’s shave sets, sticks, gifts and other his possessions like many photographs about him and his valuable family. In addition to this, the weapons of famous Sabiha Gökçen (the first woman combat pilot) and Afet İnan (foster child of Ataturk) and the mini Koran belonging to Rukiye Erkine (another adopted daughter of him) given by Ataturk as a present were exhibited here.

Yerevan (sometimes spelled Erivan is the capital and largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia, and the seventh located in or around the Ararat plain.
The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. Erebuni was designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital. By the late ancient Armenian Kingdom, new capital cities were established and Yerevan declined in importance. Under Iranian and Russian rule, it was the center of the Erivan Khanate from 1736 to 1828 and the Erivan Governorate from 1850 to 1917, respectively. After World War I, Yerevan became the capital of the First Republic of Armenia as thousands of survivors of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire arrived in the area. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became part of the Soviet Union. In a few decades, Yerevan was transformed from a provincial town within the Russian Empire to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial center, as well as becoming the seat of national government.
With the growth of the economy of the country, Yerevan has been undergoing major transformation as many parts of the city have been the recipient of new construction since the early 2000s, and retail outlets as much as restaurants, shops, and street cafés, which were rare during Soviet times, have multiplied. As of 2011, the population of Yerevan was 1,060,138, just over 35% of the Republic of Armenia's total population. According to the official estimate of 2016, the current population of the city is 1,073,700. Yerevan was named the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO. Yerevan is an associate member of Eurocities.
Of the notable landmarks of Yerevan, Erebuni Fortress is considered to be the birthplace of the city, the Katoghike Tsiranavor church is the oldest surviving church of Yerevan and Saint Gregory Cathedral is the largest Armenian cathedral in the world, Tsitsernakaberd is the official memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and several opera houses, theatres, museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions.
