Old Nafplio (or Nafplion) is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece. The former capital of the country may remind visitors of the Plaka in Athens, but it's on the sea. With two mountains crowned by medieval fortresses overlooking the town and the small island fortress called the Bourtzi that once protected the harbor, Nafplio is full of restaurants, shops, cafes, beautiful old buildings,hotels of all catagories and a beach that you can walk to in ten minutes. For people who want to visit an island but don't like boats, Nafplio is a good alternative and just a 2 hour drive from Athens. It is also convenient to the important ancient sites of Myceneae, Epidavros, Nemea, Argos and Corinth. Nafplio has a mild winter (they grow oranges here) and is one of the best places to visit in the off-season.

The old town of Nafplio, Peloponnese, Greece, with its old streets and the different architectural styles offers a variety of beautiful motifs to be discovered.
In the center is the Syntagma Square with the archaeological museum. The Venetian lion refers to its builders. Diagonally opposite is the Vouleftiko Mosque, built by the Ottomans. It was the meeting place of the first Greek Parliament.
The memory of the assassination of the first Greek prime minister is tightly connected to the church St. Spiridonas. The bullets of the assassins still stuck in the wall next to the entrance.
The lanes in the old town of Nafplio, beautifully decorated with flowers, provide shade and are a delight for tourists and locals alike.

Die Altstadt von Nafplio , Peloponnes, Griechenland, bietet mit ihren alten Gassen und den unterschiedlichen Baustilen eine Vielzahl an herrlichen Motiven, die es zu entdecken gilt.
Im Zentrum befindet sich der Syntagma Platz mit dem Archäologischen Museum. Der venezianische Löwe weist auf seine Erbauer hin. Schräg dahinter befindet sich die von den Osmanen errichtete Vouleftiko-Moschee. Sie war Tagungsort des ersten griechischen Parlaments.
Mit der Kirche St. Spiridonas ist die Erinnerung an die Ermordung des ersten griechischen Premierministers verbunden. Neben dem Eingangstor stecken noch Kugeln der Attentäter im Mauerwerk.
Die mit Blumen schön dekorierten Gassen in der Altstadt von Nafplio spenden Schatten und erfreuen Touristen und Einheimische gleichermaßen.
