Napoleonville is a village and the parish seat of Assumption Parish, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 660 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pierre Part Micropolitan Statistical Area. The village is best known as the location where the film Because of Winn-Dixie, based on Kate DiCamillo's Newbery Prize-winning novel, was shot. The book was set in Naomi, Florida.

Napoleonville Video Memories...These are silent home movies taken by Dr. Nelson Cox in the 1950's and 1960's in Napoleonville and surrounding area, including Pete Maravich playing at LSU. They were transferred to VHS Tape, then to DVD format...Thanks also to Nicky Carrier for the files and Ernie Blanchard for uploading....

Road Trip #163 - US-80 W - Gibsland to Minden, Louisiana

We continue on the next segment of US Highway 80 westbound, beginning at the eastern city limits of the small town of Gibsland, Louisiana in Bienville Parish. Gangsters Bonnie and Clyde were killed just 8 miles south of Gibsland in 1934, by Texas and Louisiana state troopers. On Main Street is the Bonnie and Clyde Ambush Museum, in what was once the cafe where they had their last meal.

After leaving Gibsland, we pass through the small unincoporated communities of Taylor and Ada, and then cross to the north side of I-20. We enter Webster Parish, and then US-79 Truck route joins us as we approach Minden. We end the drive at the eastern city limits of MInden, Louisiana.

Natchitoches LA, United States - Spectacular - YouTube

Louisiana was a real surprise for me, of course I knew of New Orleans but what was the rest of the state like?
Natchitoches, Louisiana's oldest town, established 1714 will be 300 in 2014...amazing little city...
Although Louisiana has a history of slavery as a visitor seeing the old plantation homes, hardwood trees alive with more song birds than I've ever heard, meandering rivers and historic cities was one of the highlights of our travel. Note I say one of because there are many amazing places to discover in the USA.

Quick tour of the 'Empire' hotel room at the Mouton Plantation in Lafayette, Louisiana. The main house was built in 1820 and the entire place just screams history. It was a very unique location to spend the night.
