The county was named after the English county of the same name. Two towns, Cohasset and Brookline, are exclaves. Norfolk County is included in the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norfolk County is the 28th highest-income county in the United States with a median household income of $81,899. It is the wealthiest county in Massachusetts.

Haystack Mountain is a 1,716-foot-high mountain topped with an observation tower that is the chief features of Haystack Mountain State Park, a public recreation area in the town of Norfolk, Connecticut.The 34-foot-tall Haystack Mountain Tower, built in 1929 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, sits upon it. The tower provides a view over the town of Norfolk and the neighboring town of Canaan. Common forms of wildlife found on the mountain include raccoons, bears, deer, coyotes, opossums, skunks and foxes. The dominant plant life include mountain laurel , pine trees and maples.

Campbell Falls State Park Reserve is an undeveloped, public recreation area and nature preserve located in the town of Norfolk, Connecticut. The 102-acre state park offers hiking, stream fishing, and views of the park's namesake waterfall which cascades nearly 100 feet on the Whiting River just north of the Connecticut/Massachusetts state line. Legislation passed in 1923 and 1924 provided for the joint management of the park after the land was donated to the two states by the White Memorial Foundation. A stone monument within the park marks the border between the states.

Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary in Norfolk, Massachusetts. It is among a network of sanctuaries with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. The 104-acre sanctuary is adjacent to the 140-acre Bristol Blake State Reservation. Both areas are managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation . An easy 1 mile trail starts around by encircling Stony Pond and ends by a waterfall at the site of a former mill. It is wheelchair accessible. The trail includes a 525-foot long boardwalk, installed in 2017, that allows visitors to view birds, wildlife, and the wetland habitat over Teal Marsh and Kingfisher Pond. See the best accommodation Boston is the capital of and largest city in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is regarded as the unofficial Capital of New England for its economic and cultural impact on the entire New England region. The city proper had a population of 617,594 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Boston is also the anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the country. Greater Boston as a commuting region includes six Massachusetts counties: Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Plymouth, Worcester, northern Bristol County, all of Rhode Island and parts of New Hampshire; it is home to 7.6 million people, making it the fifth-largest Combined Statistical Area in the United States.
In 1630, Puritan colonists from England founded the city on the Shawmut Peninsula. During the late 18th century, Boston was the location of several major events during the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Several early battles of the American Revolution, such as the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Siege of Boston, occurred within the city and surrounding areas. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation, Boston has expanded beyond the peninsula. After American independence was attained Boston became a major shipping port and manufacturing center, and its rich history now helps attract many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone attracting over 20 million every year.[ The city was the site of several firsts, including America's first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), and the first subway system in the United States (1897).
With many colleges and universities within the city and surrounding area, Boston is an international center of higher education and a center for medicine. The city's economy is also based on research, electronics, engineering, finance, and high technology—principally biotechnology. As a result, the city is a leading finance center, ranking 12th in the Z/Yen top 20 Global Financial Centers. The city was also ranked number one for innovation, both globally and in North America, for a variety of reasons. Boston has been experiencing gentrification, and has one of the highest costs of living in the United States, though it remains high on world livability rankings, ranking third in the US and 37th globally.
