North Caucasian Federal District is one of the eight federal districts of Russia. It is located in extreme southern Russia, in the geographical area of the North Caucasus. The federal district was split from Southern Federal District on January 19, 2010.The population of the federal subjects comprising the federal district was 9,428,826 according to the 2010 Census, living in an area of 170,400 square kilometers .The current Envoy is Oleg Belaventsev.

    Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. A dormant volcano, Elbrus is in the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia, near the border with Georgia. Elbrus has two summits, both of which are dormant volcanic domes. The taller west summit is 5,642 metres ; the east summit is 5,621 metres . The east summit was first ascended on 10 July 1829 by Khillar Khachirov, and the west summit in 1874 by a British expedition led by F.   • 14. Lake Kezenoy-Am Chechnya
    Lake Kezenoy-am is the deepest lake in the Caucasus Mountains, mostly in Chechnya but partly in Dagestan in the Russian Federation. It goes through Andiyskiy Khrebet . It is situated at an altitude of 1870 m above sea level and fills an area of 2.4 km². The maximum depth of the lake is 74 m. In winter the surface of the lake freezes and in summer the water temperature is around 5 °C. The lake water has a year-round supply of oxygen in which plankton survive. Salmo ezenami, a rare species of trout, are native only to the lake; however, their population is threatened with extinction due to the introduction of European chubs which consume the fry of the Salmo.
