NAWAKOTTA(NUWAKOT) - A Place from where Unification of Nepal Started (vlog#16)

Nuwakot Durbar, the former palace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah holds a historical and emotional value of Nepal as he is the first king of united Nepal. Situated near the Trishuli Bazzar, this seven story palace of Nuwakot is now a destination for all the domestic and foreign tourists to trackback the Nepalease history as well as to explore the architectural beauty of Durbar itself and natural beauty of the surroundings.

Nuwakot District a part of Province No. 3, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal covering area of 1121 sq. km. The district contains places of historical significance such as Nuwakot 7-storey old palace located at the top of hill named after the district itself.

Until 1744 AD, Nepal was made up of many tiny states. Prithvi Narayan Shah king of Gorkha State , led the unification of Nepal from Nuwakot.

Nuwakot and eight other forts were build on hilltops at Belkot, Bhairabkot, Kalikot, Malakot, Dhuwankot, Pyaskot, Simalkot and Salyankot, forming the NAWAKOTTA (nine forts), from which the name NUWAKOT was said to be have derived.
The Seven Storied Palace was built by laborers evicted from Lalitpur in 1762.

Even though the buildings have fallen, partially fallen or are propped up it is still a place to see.
