Little River Canyon National PreserveFort Payne Little River Canyon National Preserve is a United States National Preserve located on top of Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne, Alabama, and DeSoto State Park. Created by an Act of Congress in 1992, the 15,288-acre preserve protects what is sometimes said to be the nation's longest mountaintop river, the Little River. The canyon was historically called May's Gulf, gulf being a common term throughout the Cumberland Plateau for this sort of feature. TEN ISLANDS HISTORICAL PARK Coosa River / Neely Henry
We did a short day trip tour of the TEN ISLANDS HISTORICAL PARK at the Neely Henry Dam on the Coosa River in east Alabama. It was opened in June 1966. There is 339 miles of shore line with 11,200 surface acres. GPS coordinates 33.84 degrees North & 86.06 degrees W. Beautiful park and recreational area. Swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking. This is where a battle was fought during the Civil War July 14, 1864. I give detail in the video about the historical location. We also took a detour on the way to see Turtle Rock and the view.
