Ossineke is an unincorporated community in Sanborn Township, Alpena County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place used for statistical purposes. The population was 938 at the 2010 census. The community is located several miles south of Alpena on U.S. Highway 23. The name is derived from the Anishinaabe word zhingaabewasiniigigaabawaad, meaning Where the image stones stood, though the modern Anishinaabe name for the place is asiniike, meaning to quarry.

1. Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Alpena
Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preserve is a United States National Marine Sanctuary on Lake Huron, within the northeastern region of the U.S. state of Michigan. It protects an estimated 116 historically significant shipwrecks ranging from nineteenth-century wooden side-wheelers to twentieth-century steel-hulled steamers. There are a great many wrecks in the sanctuary, and their preservation and protection is a concern for national policymakers. The landward boundary of the sanctuary extends from the western boundary of Presque Isle County to the southern boundary of Alcona County. The sanctuary extends east from the lakeshore to the international border. Alpena is the largest city in the area.

2. Hartwick Pines State Park Grayling
Hartwick Pines State Park is a 9,762 acres state park in the U.S. state of Michigan, located in Crawford County near Grayling and Interstate 75. It is the third largest state park on Michigan's Lower Peninsula and the state's fifth-biggest park overall. The park contains an old-growth forest of white pines and red pines that resembles the appearance of all of Northern Michigan prior to the logging era.

Before colonization, the now Great Lakes State was home to at least eight Native American tribes throughout the land, one of which being the Ojibwe Indians. The Ojibwe were the first people to openly interact with the French in Michigan, trading furs and knowledge of the area for guns and goods. Through translation, the state of Michigan was named after the Ojibwe Indian word “Michigama,” which means “great lake” or “land surrounded by water.”

Just south of Alpena, Michigan is Dinosaur Gardens and it is like taking a trip back in time. The park is a walking tour that lets you see what these dinosaurs must have looked like when they roamed the earth millions of years ago.
