TRAVELING THAILAND - E10 - KOH TAO (4K) (2017)
This is the tenth episode of our backpacking trip through Thailand. It was my first time in Asia and also my first time shooting in 4K.
!!!Text in Description!!!
----------------
In October 2016 a friend of mine and I decided we were in need of some new experiences. So we planned a route through Thailand, booked some flights and took a 4 week break from our routine lives in February 2017. Join us on our way through the land of smiles!
----------------
Joined by the guys from Cologne and 3 new additions to our group - A girl from Düsseldorf, A guy from Moenchengladbach, and another girl from Mainz – we once again catched the Lomprayah to cross over to Koh Tao.
There we checked into our hostel and took a pick up truck to get a ride all over this small island.
Since we slowly ran out of money on our trip, we decided to walk the way home from the bar we have been, which has taken us presumeably forever. The good news was that the Thai people know where these hungry tourists linger at night times. So the thai pencake sellers brought us to a halt several times. After more than an 1 hour walk , let us hear what one of the participants has to say:
We had nothing on our plan but beach time for the next days, so we made our way to the famous Shark bay.
We left Shark Bay after Sundown and finished our day, chilling at the beautiful Sairee Beach.
From there we took a long tail boat the next morning to go to Koh Nang Yuan which is famous for its beach connecting the two tiny islands - and the Viewpoint from the top of one of these mountains.
We took our time to get the snorkeling gear back on and explored the world beneath the waves. We found some pineapple skin and tried to attract the swarm fishes with it. For a moment we were surrounded by hundreds of fish trying to get their piece of the cake.
We took the boat back to Sairee beach to meet up again with our travelmates and enjoyed another beautiful sunset on Koh Tao.

This video is a breakdown of a single man's monthly cost of living near Pattaya, Thailand in 2019. Please keep in mind, these numbers are based on my personal life experience living near Pattaya, Thailand.
The recommendations I give are only a suggestion. Your needs and overall cost of living will differ from mine.
I live about two hours away from Pattaya by motorbike. I live in a medium sized city with both expensive and cheap districts to live in.
In this travel vlog, I cover the basic survival needs, and their costs. Things such as, rent, utilities, HBA, Transportation, Fuel, a cell phone, and stops at stores.
Then I add entertainment cost. Next comes the cost of health insurance. Moving on, I add in the costs of my T-Mobile Cell phone, a TRUE data Sim card as a backup for my phone, my monthly subscription payments such as, Netflix, Adobe, etc. Finally, I finish with my monthly supply of medications.
Altogether, it is my recommendation that you have health insurance, savings, and $1,800-$2,000 of monthly income.

Wat Phra That Phanom, Isan - Thailand 4K Travel Channel
Before we drive to Wat Phra That Phanom, we have a look at the banks of the Mekong in Phra Klang Thung. Near the Thai banks of the Mekong, you find again and again islands. Almost all belong to Laos. The reason for this is to be found in the past. Siam was the dominant country in this region. As of the middle of the 19th century onwards, the French developed their influence as a colonial power in Southeast Asia and conquered the eastern bank of the Mekong. They then forced Siam to recognize the Mekong as a border river. In return, the part of Laos to the east of the Mekong came to Siam. This part corresponds to Isan today. The islands in the Mekong remained with Laos.
We continue our way to the Wat Phra That Phanom. It is one of the most important Temple complexes in Isan. The Chedi allegedly houses the breastbone of Buddha and is said to have been erected 8 years after his death.
The outer covering of the That, as the quadrangular Chedis are called here, dates back to the ninth century. It received its present appearance in the Laotian style in 1690. At that time, the monk Phra Khru Luang Phonsamek increased the height to 47 m and gave it a tip of 16 kg of pure gold. In 1941 the That was renovated and once again increased to 57 m.
A thunderstorm strongly damaged the That in 1975 and it was renovated again in 1979. It is said to have been decorated with 110 kg of gold. In an adjoining building is a small museum with items that have survived the storm in 1975.
The ornate and approximately 2 m high perimeter wall with its magnificently ornamented main entrance, as well as a sedentary Buddha with a golden honor umbrella in front of the That, date from more recent times.
Lakes and trees adorn the surroundings of the temple. Outside the wall, you find souvenir booths everywhere.
Since 2017, Wat Phra That Phanom belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
A shrub became the home of many Lyssa zampa (Tropical Swallowtail Moth), also known as Laos Brown Butterfly.

Wat Phra That Choeng Chum, Sakon Nakhon - Thailand 4K Travel Channel
On the way to Nakhon Phanom, our guide would like to show us a famous temple, Wat Phra That Choeng Chum. It is in Sakon Nakhon, a city with approx. 54,000 inhabitants and the capital of the province of the same name. Sakon Nakhon lies on the western edge of the lowland plain of the Mekong at the Nong-Han lake. With an area of 125 km², the Lake Nong Han is the largest natural lake of north-east Thailand.
Wat Phra That Choeng Chum is the city's most important landmark. A Chedi, called That here, is the central sanctuary. The term That comes from the Laotian, and denotes a quadrangular Chedi.
The That is 24 m high and houses a prang from the 10th century. At that time, the region belonged to the Khmer empire with the capital Angkor. Supposedly, the That was erected above the footprints of the four incarnations of the Buddha. The local population worships the shrine.
Our guide is competent and helpful but also has a tendency of missionizing. He takes Ursula's hand and goes with her to a monk to be blessed by him.
Then he says that she should give the monk a small donation, that is, money. Ursula was a little stunned, but she followed the instructions.
The monk sits in front of a well-known Buddha statue, the Luang Phor Phra Ong Saen, presumably from the year 1257.
A bridal pair in precious robes uses a prayer hall as a backdrop for his wedding pictures.
Meanwhile one calls the monks for the common prayer.
The day draws to a close and we have to get back on our way. We reach Nakhon Phanom after dark.
