STINGLESS Jellyfish lake | KAKABAN Berau Borneo TRAVEL VLOG
In this Indonesia Travel Vlog we visit Kakaban. A stingless jellyfish lake in Berau Regency, Derawan, off of the island of Borneo (aka Kalimantan).
This isn't the only stingless jellyfish lake in the world. The most famous being in Palau and Siargao, Philippines. The jellies in all of these lakes are called stingless because there are no natural predators here, and they do not have the need for protection. The reality is though, they do in fact sting, but the stingers on their tentacles (called nematocysts) are too small to pierce the skin of people. If you're a small fish, or other creature... you're lunch.
There are 4 species of Jellies in this lake, and in this Indonesia Travel Vlog, we go exploring to find each of them.

Derawan Islands is one of the best destinations to explore in Indonesia with its unique features such as stingless jellyfish, whale sharks, and amazing coral reefs. Famous Jellyfish lake of Pulau Kakaban (Indonesia)
In the north east of Kalimantan there is a group of small islands, the Derawan Islands.
80 000 years ago one atoll called Pulau Kakaban were pressed by vulcanic activities on an higher level. And so the lagune becomes an inland lake where all the 4 different kinds of jellyfish can survive without any enemy. So they lost there stinging poison and everybody can swim with them very carefully.
It`s an extremly amazing experience.

The Derawan Islands are in the province of East Kalimantan in Indonesia. They include Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban, Maratua, Panjang, and Samama Island and submerged reefs and islets. They are located in the Sulawesi Sea, on the coastal shelf of East Kalimantan (2°17'N - 118°13'E). The islands are part of the Berau Regency.
