Opened in 2007, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens invites visitors of all ages and abilities to create and to explore meaningful connections to plants and nature at their own pace. The Gardens has been named one of Maine’s top attractions . Its gardens and landscape include nearly a mile of tidal saltwater. As the largest botanical garden in New England, the Gardens comprises 295 acres, 17 of which are gardens featuring native plants of Maine and other plants suited to northern coastal conditions. Yearly, the Gardens sees on average 200,000 guests from throughout the United States and 63 foreign countries.

The light station sits on a head of land at the entrance of the primary shipping channel into Portland Harbor, which is within Casco Bay in the Gulf of Maine. The light station is automated, and the tower, beacon, and foghorn are maintained by the United States Coast Guard, while the former lighthouse keepers' house is a maritime museum within Fort Williams Park.
