Sabile is a town in Talsi municipality, Latvia. Sabile was first mentioned in chronicles in 1253. From the 14th century to the 16th century, it was a site of a castle of the Livonian Order and a village near the castle. Sabilė became a town in 1917. The Vīna kalns of Sabile used to be the most northern open-air vineyard in the world, registered in the Guinness Book of Records. The winemaking tradition in Sabile dates back to the 16th century. The Sabile Castle Mound, which was the center of the district from the 10th century to the 13th century, overlooks Sabile and the valley of the Abava River.

    Venta Rapid is a waterfall on the Venta River in Kuldīga, Latvia. It is the widest waterfall in Europe – 249 metres and up to 270 metres during spring floods. Its height is 1.80–2.20 metres and it changes depending on the water level in the river.The Waterfall formed on Devonian dolostone. It formed an obstacle on Venta - medieval inland shipping route and due to this here formed settlement - contemporary Kuldīga. In the 17th and 19th centuries there were started works for building a shipping route around the falls but works were abandoned. Fishing weirs were carved into the stone. They were used to catch salmon and sturgeon. Due to these fishing devices, Kuldīga used to be called to be a town where you can catch salmon in the air. One could catch as many as 80—100 salmon a day . ...

    Jelgava is a city in central Latvia about 41 kilometres southwest of Riga with about 63,000 inhabitants. It is the largest town in the region of Zemgale . Jelgava was the capital of the united Duchy of Courland and Semigallia and the administrative center of the Courland Governorate . Jelgava is situated on a fertile plain rising only 3.5 metres above mean sea level on the right bank of the river Lielupe. At high water the plain and sometimes the town as well can be flooded. It is a railway center and is also host to Jelgava Air Base. Its importance as a railway centre can be seen by the fact that it lies at the junction of over 6 railway lines connecting Riga to Lithuania, eastern and western Latvia, and Lithuania to the Baltic sea.
