Johnstown Dam Disaster
The Johnstown Flood (locally, the Great Flood of 1889) occurred on May 31, 1889, after the catastrophic failure of the South Fork Dam on the Little Conemaugh River 14 miles (23 km) upstream of the town of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The dam broke after several days of extremely heavy rainfall, releasing 14.55 million cubic meters of water. With a volumetric flow rate that temporarily equaled the average flow rate of the Mississippi River, 2,209 people, according to one account, lost their lives, and the flood accounted for US$17 million of damage (about $463 million in 2017 dollars).
The American Red Cross, led by Clara Barton and with 50 volunteers, undertook a major disaster relief effort. Support for victims came from all over the United States and 18 foreign countries. After the flood, survivors suffered a series of legal defeats in their attempts to recover damages from the dam's owners. Public indignation at that failure prompted the development in American law changing a fault-based regime to strict liability.

Rare Action In Upstate, NY feat. KCS, BN SD60 Leader, & A lot more!
Another upstate trip, 6/20/14 - 6/22/14, was needed before i go away to Germany for 2 week, then right after to Florida, to see my grandparents & to do some railfanning. While I'm down there, I will be railfanning the CSX S Line as usual, Folkston, GA , Possibly Austell, GA & The CSXT Florence Subdivison in SC. As you can tell, I will be extremely busy for the next month. I will be doing some railfanning in Germany, like their bullet trains, Steam trains, frighets and other stuff like that.
Now to this upstate trip, there were certainly alot of firsts for me. Like KCS on Q008, Ex BN Leader on Q380, which came back on L279 the next day, and a lot of other great things too, like a V982 with 2 CP ES44ACs. Towards the beging, when we arrived at Fonda, it was dead, Then Amtk #49 came. Following that was a K351, wierd symbol. Then a lot of other trains came to. One that stood out to me was CSX Q161 with a brand new CP AC4400CW. I mean it was literally brand new. The next morning we railfanned St. Johnsville, NY, and saw CSX Q022 almost hitting a deer. Then we saw a new symboled train again, CSX Q372 witha nice UP SD70ACe leader. Q017 came right after with a nice BNSF SD70ACe. Also the train had all EMD, rare for a B&A Train. Then we moved to Auto 201, where we saw yet another Q372, with another UP SD70ACe leader, this time the engineer blew the beautiful K5LLA. The action will continue at the Amsterdam Station, Then the CSX Selkirk sub, and then eventually CSX Selkirk Yard. Thanks for watching, please stay tuned for part 2!

Here is part one of my latest trip to upstate. We start in Amsterdam and then later on we move to St. Johnsville where we catch A K train with two CN SD75Is and Q710 with CSXT 5000 leading. John Herschel Glenn Jr. (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016) was a United States Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, businessman, and politician. He was the first American to orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962. Following his retirement from NASA, he served from 1974 to 1999 as a Democratic United States Senator from Ohio.
Before joining NASA, Glenn was a distinguished fighter pilot in World War II, China and Korea. He shot down three MiG-15s, and was awarded six Distinguished Flying Crosses and eighteen Air Medals. In 1957, he made the first supersonic transcontinental flight across the United States. His on-board camera took the first continuous, panoramic photograph of the United States.
He was one of the Mercury Seven, military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA as the nation's first astronauts. On February 20, 1962, Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission, becoming the first American to orbit the Earth, and the fifth person and third American in space. He received the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1962, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1990, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
Glenn resigned from NASA in January 1964. A member of the Democratic Party, Glenn was first elected to the Senate in 1974 and served for 24 years, until January 1999. In 1998, while still a sitting Senator, Glenn flew on the Discovery space shuttle's STS-95 mission, making him the oldest person to fly in space and the only person to fly in both the Mercury and Space Shuttle programs. Glenn, the last surviving member of the Mercury Seven, died at the age of 95 in 2016. He is survived by his wife Annie Glenn, an advocate for people with disabilities and communication disorders.
