Its adjacent provinces are Kocaeli to the west, Bilecik to the south, Bolu to the southeast, and Düzce to the east. The capital of Sakarya is Adapazarı. The climate is oceanic due to its close proximity to the Black Sea. Sakarya is situated on the Ankara-Istanbul Highway. It is connected through both road and rail.     Lake Sapanca is a fresh water lake in Turkey, between the Gulf of İzmit and the Adapazarı Meadow. The lake has a catchment area of 251 km², surface area is 45 km², a length 16 km east-west / 5 km north-south, and a maximum depth of 52 m. Lake Sapanca, Turkey Sapanca Lake is located on a tectonic hole, which is situated between Izmit Bay and Adapazari Meadow and runs parallel to Iznik Lake. The catchment area of Lake Sapanca - about 251 km2 [km²] - is surrounded by mountains in the south and small hills in the north. Water is taken from the Lake for domestic and industrial needs. The region around Sapanca has become a destination for day trips and weekend vacations.

    Lake Poyrazlar Nature Park is a nature park declared lake in Sakarya Province, northwestern Turkey. Lake Poyrazlar, also known as Lake Teke, is located in Poyrazlar village, 8 km northeast of Adapazarı, north of the highway in Sakarya Province. The lake covers an area of 67 ha and its banks are 2.4 km long. The depth of the water varies between 3–8 m .The lake ant its environment was declared a first-grade natural protected area in 1993 by the Council for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage. In 1995, a development plan for the area was worked out, and it was officially registered. The area was leased for a lease term of five years in 2009.
