This is the Second video of Day-10 of my Russian trip in which you will see me exploring the Altai Mountains, the unexplored part of beautiful Russia. I managed to reach Onguday with the help of a lovely elderly couple. After that, I got a lift in another car from Onguday to Geyzernoye Ozero, a place near Aktach. I stayed with Dima and Tanya in a log hut in Geyzernoye Ozero. We all paid 500 Rubles each for a night. Interestingly that was the coldest night of my trip. The temperature dipped to almost -10-degree Celsius. More details -

Медведи наличествуют, хотя главный зверь в Якутии — олень. «Очень холодно» — тоже не поспоришь, но республика превратила свой климат в главную туристическую «фишку»: полюс холода и вечная мерзлота пользуются повышенной популярностью. Бескрайняя? О да. Якутия занимает пятую часть карты России. Франция, Австрия, Германия, Италия, Швеция, Англия, Финляндия и Греция вместе взятые не дотягивают по площади до Саха Сирэ, как называют свою землю якуты. Она растянулась от Северного Ледовитого океана почти до границы с Китаем. Пустыня? Близко к истине: плотность населения здесь — меньше половины человека на квадратный километр. «Очень далеко» — тоже верно. «Добро пожаловать в Якутию» — некогда такое приветствие звучало как издевательство: в царское время этот край прозвали тюрьмой без стен. А сегодня туристы сами платят за то, чтобы его увидеть. И жаль, что не каждый может себе позволить далекое (синоним — дорогое) путешествие, чтобы убедиться: Якутия намного больше легенд о самой себе. Якутская природа создала чудеса удивительные: от золота и алмазов в глубоких недрах до стремящихся к небу Ленских столбов, от ташкентской жары летом до зимних долин, где при -50 С слышен «шепот звезд». Здесь пасутся самые северные в мире лошади и живые представители эпохи мамонтов — снежные бараны. А тела самих мамонтов в целости сохранила для современной науки поистине вечная мерзлота. Тысячелетия — таков счет времени в этих краях. Десятки тысяч лет назад люди освоили эти земли, перемещаясь вслед за стадами оленей. Потомки этих людей, сохранившие прочную связь с тысячелетним прошлым, — вот, пожалуй, главное чудо Якутии. Охотники, оленеводы, шаманы… Строители, геологи, водители… Местные или пришлые — древние законы взаимопомощи и гостеприимства равны для всех. Не важно, в городе или в отдаленной деревушке, русский ли встретился, якут или эвен — здесь никогда не бросят путника на дороге, любого гостя накормят и обогреют. Вне зависимости от национальности, вероисповедания, политических воззрений или времени года. Здесь по-другому не выжить. Говорят, только тот, кто побывал в Сибири, получает настоящее представление о России. Что ж, Сибирь большая, выбирайте сами. А мы скажем так: сутки пути через Оймяконскую долину способны перевернуть ваш взгляд на мир. Точнее, на один из трех миров, как считают якуты, — Срединный. Тот, что между Верхним и Нижним.

Location: Tomponsky District, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia's Siberia.
Constructed initially by Stalin's GULAG inmates in 1940s. By now, the featured part remains as such as it was in the beginning. Cold and beautiful.
