It was at times referred to as Spanish Honduras to differentiate it from British Honduras, which became the modern-day state of Belize. The country is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea.

A 20 mintue ride from La Ceiba lands us at the Sambo Creek ferry station where we start the 1 hour boat trip to the beautiful islands and marine biological reserve of Cayos Cochinos. Enjoy snorkeling and sandy beach coves, a Garifuna meal at Chachahuate Cay (fresh fish, plantains, and fried rice and beans prepared with coconut milk.)

I am on a missions trip in Honduras and these white faced monkeys come down from the mountains. We usually feed them bananas but we ran out so I cut up some apple. They did not like apple and they did not come back for quite a while.
