Bibione ( Bibion in Veneto and in Friuli ) is a fraction of the municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento . In 2009 , its beach ranked second in Italy after that of Rimini by number of presences (about 6 million). In 1956 the first works began to transform Bibione into a tourist area. The creation of the first hotels and shops will take the island to the right of the Tagliamento, in the space of 50 years, to become an important tourist destination for families. With about 2600 inhabitants, it is the most populated village in the municipality. The stretch of the beach of Bibione between the first row of umbrellas and the sea and the prohibition of smoke at the lighthouse makes it the first smoke-free beach in Italy
The wide beach of Bibione, completely facing towards south, will allow you to relax and get a tan without having to move your sun bed around to catch the sunbeams. In the areas of Lido dei Pini and Bibione Pineda, you will be immersed in the green of the Mediterrean scrub, whereas between these two you can enjoy either the calmness of Lido del Sole or the movida of Bibione Spiaggia.
The Bibione spa was founded in 1996 and is recognized by the Ministry of Health and is affiliated with the National Health Service. At a depth of more than 400 meters, the alkaline sodium bicarbonate fluorated mineral water is taken at a temperature of 52 °, particularly indicated for mud therapy, for inhalation treatments and for vascular rehabilitation.
Porto Baseleghe is the port of Bibione. It is located on the eastern bank of the Canale dei Lovi, and is accessed from the lagoon by a channel bordered by bricole that is part of the Litoranea Veneta, the waterway connecting the Po with the Venice lagoon to Monfalcone .
Approximately in the year 1000 the lands and territories of the island of Bibione are assigned to the bishops of nearby Concordia . With the Republic of Venice , the lagoon waters pass under its jurisdiction and Bibione goes through several centuries of abandonment, returning land of fishermen and wild animals. In 1866 it joins the just born Kingdom of Italy , which starts a work for the reclamation of wetlands, aimed at making this water more swampy and malarial even more salubrious. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Consortium was established, which undertook massive works of embankment and canalization of the water in the Tagliamento river area., works that are completed around 1930, with the rehabilitation of over 10,000 hectares of surface. Along with the land reclamation, traffic is also developed and Bibione is also reached by the electricity and water network. In 1956 the tourist development of Bibione began, with the first receptive buildings and the development of the bathing area. The Bibione name was made official in 1960 and, almost at the same time, Bibione is recognized as a bathing area. In 1961 Bibione is already mentioned in the Touring Club yearbook.

Il nome di Torrice deriva verosimilmente dalle torri che la cinta muraria medioevale presentava quando nel secolo X il centro ciociaro venne fortificato.Ma resti archeologici fanno ritenere che nell’epoca romana, forse a causa della sua vicinanza con Frusino e con la via Latina, il territorio torriciano fosse popolato da gente abitante in un pagus o attorno a qualche piccola villa rustica.Le prime testimonianze storiche risalgono all’inizio del millennio quando Torrice viene menzionata prima come località e poi come castrum appartenente alla circoscrizione religiosa verolana e soggetto politicamente allo stesso vescovo.Questi era in lotta con la potente famiglia feudale dei Girinidi, arroccata a Monte San Giovanni Campano e padrona di molti castelli della zona.I vescovi erano soliti definire le controversie sistemando il territorio con vasti possedimenti a contratto livellare, garantendosi poi la presenza dì un gruppo di milites fedeli. Da questì milites, venne probabilmente quel gruppo di condomini che controllò Torrice nei secoli XI-XII e fino ai primi decenni del Duecento.I condomini ebbero il potere giudiziale, riscuotendo decime e servizi, come detentori di ogni potere sul piccolo castello. Nei secoli del Medioevo Torrice venne più volte attaccato e incendiato: nel 1129 dal le truppe pontificie di Onorio Il durante il tentativo papale di riconquista della Campagna, nel 1165 dalle milizie tedesche di Federico I il Barbarossa guidate da Diopoldo il quale fece devastare e depredare le contrade.Se in questi secoli Torrice sembra già una piccola comunità autonoma per aver portato a compimento il suo processo di affrancamento da Veroli e dai castelli vicini in realtà era ancora sottoposta a signori feudali consorziati in condominio. Dal 1224, il borgo fu tuttavia concesso dal papato ai de Ceccano mentre al vescovo di Veroli rimasero i diritti signorili.Durante il Trecento Torrice fu sottoposto a continue scorrerie provocate dalle lotte contro i Caetani. I suoi abitanti parteciparono all’assalto della rocca di Ferentino, allorché i campanini insorsero contro il cardinale Egidio d’Albornoz e l’estensione delle sue costituzioni alla provincia di Campagna e Marittima. Malgrado la presenza dei de Ceccano fosse forte, Torrice tornò sotto la giurisdizione del vescovo verolano e della Chiesa romana. Per questi motivi venne attaccato e occupato da Onorato Caetani nel 1399 durante i fatti dello scisma d’Occidente in cui Torrice fu coinvolto riuscendo infine a tornare all’obbedienza del papa legittimo.Dopo questi avvenimenti Torrice fu occupato da Ladìslao di Durazzo re dì Napoli a cui i torriciani si ribellarono di struggendogli le fortificazioni che erano state erette.Agli inizi del Quattrocento esisteva l’universitas, il comune rurale che nel Cinquecento appariva dotato di propri statuti.La comunità venne poi nuovamente sottoposta a un’ultima signoria dei ceccanesi per passare nel 1484 sotto Deifobo dell’Anguillara e poi da un signore all’altro, fra i quali, il cardinale Francesco Mendoza causa di una certa influenza spagnola sul castello. Seguì per Torrice un periodo di spopolamento, ma la ripresa demografica si ebbe subitanea e vigorosa. Nel Seicento Torrice fu al centro di gravissimi problemi economici a cui si tentò di far fronte mediante un vasto disboscamento del territorio, da destinare all’allevamento e all’agricoltura.Nei secoli dell’età moderna, dopo la guerra di Campagna, l’ultima combattuta nel Lazio meridionale fino all’invasione francese del 1798 si ebbero i problemi provocati dal brigantaggio, resi più virulenti dalla focosa personalità degli abitanti. Qualche torriciano partecipò alle ribellioni antigiacobine venendo però condannato al patibolo.I segni della ripresa demografica ed economica del Settecento furono la progettazione e la realizzazione del rinnovamento del patrimonio edilizio, sia sacro, con la ricostruzione secondo criteri barocchi delle principali chiese, che profano, con la riedificazione di molte abitazioni e la costruzione di nuovi palazzi.All’inizio dell’Ottocento poche erano le famiglie benestanti e grandissimo il numero delle famiglie contadine e nullatenenti. Nei primi decenni, malgrado la forte presenza ecclesiastica, a Torrice si diffondevano sentimenti anticlericali e carbonari: un torriciano, Nicola Fabrizi, fu l’organizzatore di una vendita carbonara che si ramificò e si collegò con altre vendite della provincia, segnale dei cambiamenti radicali in corso anche nelle province più arretrate dello stato papale. Questa fiammata antiecclesiastica non diventò progetto politico accolto da tutti i torriciani: non si ebbero nel Risorgimento fatti rilevanti né i paesani mostrarono di avere un ruolo attivo nei fatti storici del secolo XIX.Torrice è stato colpito diverse volte dai terremoti: si ricordano ancora i danni prodotti da quello del 1915.
