Tourists traveling by bus from Switzerland to Austria generally pass by in Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. The city of 17.3 square kilometers and a population of 5,372 inhabitants is one of the few capitals of countries in the world that have no airports and train stations.
Vaduzi is on the banks of the River Rhine, one of Europe's longest rivers. One of Vaduz's landmarks is Vaduz Castle, where the prince of Liechtenstein who ruled the monarchy with his family. The castle is at the top of a hill, in the middle of the city, so it can be seen from all sides of the city. Vaduz Castle is the most popular castle among the five castles in Liechtenstein. The other four castles are Gutenberg Castle in Balzers, Obere Burg Castle, Untere Burg Castle in Schellenberg, as well as Schalun Castle in Vaduz Town.
