Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt was a German politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany , who served as Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1974 to 1982. Before becoming Chancellor, he had served as Minister of Defence and as Minister of Finance . In the latter role he gained credit for his financial policies. He had also served briefly as Minister of Economics and as acting Foreign Minister. As Chancellor, he focused on international affairs, seeking political unification of Europe in partnership with the United States. Phantasialand is a theme park in Brühl, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany that attracts approximately 1.75 million visitors annually. The park was opened in 1967 by Gottlieb Löffelhardt and Richard Schmidt. Although starting as a family-oriented park, Phantasialand has also added thrill rides, especially during recent years. Furthermore, following the example of Europa-Park, they have decided to attract business customers beside the regular ones, calling it Business to Pleasure.Among the park's thrill rides is Taron , Black Mamba and a themed Mine Train roller coaster called Colorado Adventure, which runs among some mountains in the park's Wild West section and was opened by Michael Jackson.

Eltz Castle is a medieval castle nestled in the hills above the Moselle River between Koblenz and Trier, Germany. It is still owned by a branch of the same family that lived there in the 12th century, 33 generations ago. Bürresheim Castle , Eltz Castle and Lissingen Castle are the only castles on the left bank of the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate which have never been destroyed.

The Marksburg is a castle above the town of Braubach in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is one of the principal sites of the Rhine Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortress was used for protection rather than as a residence for royal families. It has a striking example of a bergfried designed as a butter-churn tower. Of the 40 hill castles between Bingen am Rhein and Koblenz the Marksburg was the only one which was never destroyed.

Stuttgart is a city that’s made for sightseeing.

It’s packed full of fun things to do, it’s incredibly easy to get around, it has some of the best shopping in all of Germany and it is also home to the 2nd largest beer festival in the country.

You’ve heard of Oktoberfest, right? Well let me introduce you to Frühlingsfest, the less touristy and more authentic version of Oktoberfest. I went for just one day and I can honestly say it’s one of the most fun festivals I’ve ever been to.

Stuttgart is also a city famous for cars with two awesome museums that’ll please any petrolhead – the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum.

With so much to see and do, it’s easy to see why Stuttgart is one of the most popular places to visit in Germany.

During a military training I had a little time to explore the area around US military bases in Germany!

Tips for travel in Germany:
HAVE CASH! Many places are not card friendly.
Bring a refillable water bottle. Water costs money at restaurants.
Or ask for TAP water.
Rent a small car, it is so much easier on the narrow roads. You'll have more options if you can drive stick.
Pack travel size shampoo, conditioner, etc. It may not be at your hotel.
Germans respect authority... follow the rules.
Bring a travel charger adapter!
Order a Radler :) it's a mix of beer and sprite and is delicious!
