What’s going on everybody? Welcome back to another episode. This time, we’re checking out Shanghai, the biggest city in China. Lets go explore the top things to do and see while you’re there!

Yu Garden

One of the most popular destinations in all of Shanghai is the Yu Gardens. The garden is built in the Old City and is meant as a space for poetry and meditation. Here, you can also find multiple pathways and hidden pavillions to explore.

Oriental Pearl TV Tower

Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the 4th highest in Asia and the 6th highest tower in the world. If you can deal with heights and love great views, you can enjoy a beautiful dinner at the restaurant at the top. The basement of the building also hosts the Shanghai Municipal History Museum.

Nanjing Road

Nanjing Road is China’s most premier shopping street where fashion lovers come to visit and shop from across the world. Some of the luxury brands you can find on this street include Tiffany, Mont Blanc, Omega, and Dunhill.

Waibaidu Bridge

The Waibaidu Bridge, which is called Garden Bridge in English, is also known as “Grandma’s Bridge” by the locals due to its rich history and age of over 100 years old. You’ve seen this bridge in many blockbuster movies and has become a distinct landmark in Shanghai’s iconic skyline.

Shanghai River Boat

A popular must-do is the Shanghai River Cruise over the Huangpu River, which is the largest river passing through the city and is also the main source of drinking water for Shanghai. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the views on the amazing river cruise!

Shanghai World Financial Center

The Shanghai World Financial Center is a supertall skyscraper that is dedicated to commerce and culture. The building has multiple uses including a vertical city with over 60 office floors, conference facilities, retail and dining spaces, and a five-star hotel at the top, which makes it the world’s highest hotel from the 79th to 93rd floors. Above the hotel, at the 100th floor, is an observatory with a glass floor for visitors to enjoy breathtaking views.

Top 10 Travel Destination in Shanghai - China

Shanghai was the largest and most prosperous city in the Far East during the 1930's. In the past 20 years it has again become an attractive city for tourists from all over the world. The world once again had its eyes on the city when it hosted the 2010 World Expo, recording the greatest number of visitors in the event's history.

The largest city in China is also its most cosmopolitan, offering visitors a chance to experience the past, present, and future all at once. The Huangpu River splits Shanghai into two districts: Pudong and Puxi. The Pudong skyline looks like it was ripped from the Jetsons, with the bulbous Oriental Pearl TV and Radio Tower looking a bit like a two headed lollipop. On the Puxi side, you can walk the Bund riverside district to get a taste of old Shanghai.

Shanghai is a fascinating mix of East and West. It has historic shikumen houses that blend the styles of Chinese houses with European design flair, and it has one of the richest collections of Art Deco buildings in the world. As there were so many concessions (designated districts) to Western powers during the turn of the 20th century, in many places the city has a cosmopolitan feel. There is everything from classic Parisian style, to Tudor style buildings that give an English flair and 1930s buildings reminiscent of New York or Chicago.

There is a saying that goes, Shanghai is heaven for the rich, hell for the poor, People from all over China flock to Shanghai — everyone from farmers seeking jobs in manual labour to university graduates seeking to start a career or wanting to live in a cool up-tempo city. Even well-off people, though, complain that buying a home is becoming impossible; prices have skyrocketed in the last few years.

I stayed in Shanghai for quite a bit to bring you places like Flair, Yu Garden, French Concession, Pudong, Xintiandi, Shanghai Nightlife and how to cheat China's internet ban. Featuring all must-see locations!

Shanghai literally means 'on top of the sea' in Chinese and with 23 million people it is currently the biggest city in China. The map below has a list of all the best places in Shanghai of which some have a dedicated article and video.

Prices in Shanghai are very affordable, a large bowl of delicious noodles with braised pork and vegetables will cost you less than $2 thus you can comfortably live on $10 budget per day.

The skyline of Shanghai was shaped in less than 26 years, and even holds landmarks like the Jin Mao tower, World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower, world's second tallest building at 632 meters.

Watch the breathtaking view of Shanghai's business district (Pudong) while standing on the Bund, especially at night when all the neon lights come on. For a great observatory view I recommend Flair restaurant on top of the Ritz-Carlton which is FREE to enter.

My favorite way to explore Shanghai was during my daily jogs. I recommend starting on Nanjing Road and make your way to People's Park, especially during the weekend since you may find yourself running into the Shanghai Wedding Market. At which Parents of unmarried adults go to the park every weekend, from noon to 5pm, to trade information on their kids.

China, being a communist country, I've never seen such a large gap between rich and poor. This was one of the last places, after North-Korea, where I would expect to see such a huge income gap.

Senior ladies were selling vegetables on the sidewalk while rich teenagers parked their Lamborghini's next door, quite the eye-opener.

I made a few Chinese friends during my stay in Shanghai, we all went for duck feet dinner on Nanjing Road and a few drinks at Sir Elly's on top of the Peninsula hotel which honestly is the most incredible rooftop bar in Shanghai. A must-see if you ever decide to visit Shanghai!

Shanghai has a strong French influence which you can explore at the French Concession area in the Xintiandi district, one of the most luxury areas of the city. Surprisingly,

I visited Shanghai during fashion week and Octoberfest, if there is on time to go it is visiting Shanghai around this time due to all the events being thrown around the city.

Now my most important tip is ExpressVPN, China has a very strict internet policy, because they cannot control information on Google, Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, thus they decided to ban it altogether.

This is extremely helpful if you relay on Google Maps to navigate you around, even without - don't be discouraged to visit Shanghai, it was one of the most amazing experiences I've had. Have a safe journey!
