Skiatook is a city in Osage and Tulsa counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is located in the northeastern part of the state, about twenty miles north and west of Tulsa. The population was 7,397 at the 2010 census, an increase of 37.1 percent from 5,396 at the 2000 census.

Woolaroc is a museum and wildlife preserve located in the Osage Hills of Northeastern Oklahoma on Oklahoma State Highway 123 about 12 mi southwest of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and 45 mi north of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Woolaroc was established in 1925 as the ranch retreat of oilman Frank Phillips. The ranch is a 1500 hectare wildlife preserve, home to over 30 different species of native and exotic wildlife, such as buffalo, elk and longhorn cattle. Woolaroc is also a museum with a collection of western art and artifacts, American Indian material, and one of the largest collections of Colt firearms in the world. The Will Rogers Memorial Museum is a 19,052-square-foot museum in Claremore, Oklahoma that memorializes entertainer Will Rogers. The museum houses artifacts, memorabilia, photographs, and manuscripts pertaining to Rogers' life, and documentaries, speeches, and movies starring Rogers are shown in a theater. Rogers' tomb is located on its 20-acre grounds overlooking Claremore and Rogers State University. Until March 7, 2016, the museum was managed by the Will Rogers Memorial Commission, a state agency. On that date, the Governor of Oklahoma signed legislation dissolving the state commission and transferring the property and all its assets to the Oklahoma Historical Society, another state agency.

RIVERPARKS WEST AND EAST BANK BICYCLE TRAILS-THE GATHERING PLACE-TULSA, OK-EP29

On our way to Texas, we stopped in Tulsa, OK. To our surprise there were a number of gems we came across.

We have a short segment on a charming nonprofit theater, screening independent & art films in a 1928 cinema with an art gallery. It is called the Circle Cinema in Tulsa, and that provided us a great thing to do on a few rainy nights!

In our travels, we have discovered our preferred bike riding is along paved trails that run along rivers that intersect a city. Plenty of places have had them. This type of trail tends to be predominantly flat, and have amazing assortments of scenery along the way. Our #1 trail will always most likely be the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota that we went on twice. It went down hill for 18 of 24 miles, and then we were picked up and driven back to our van.

But this trail is now our #2 favorite, along our travels. Our video does not do it justice. Having most of the trail divided up between lanes for bikes and lanes for walkers was fantastic. The fact that the Arkansas River needed a permanent, uninhabited, flood plain “buffer area” on the west and east banks allowed for all sorts of common use, parks and recreation areas that could flood and come back to life again later.

Along the banks was a privately funded $435 million dollar rec area called the Gathering Place. It was Fantastic!!! It was so good, we will have a separate video just for it.

Birch Cove is an Army Corps of Engineers Park that the Two Tired Teachers found amazing. Despite none of the sites having water at the campsite, it is a gorgeous campground with water near each campsite.

Birch Cove is near Tulsa, OK; and not far from Bartlesville, OK. Off the beaten path attractions abound in the area. Two Tired Teachers visited Woolaroc, standing for woods, lake, and rock. It is a retreat that belonged to Frank Phillips, founder of Phillips 66 gas company.

In Pawhuska, the Two Tired Teachers saw the Mercantile Building where Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond offers some of her amazing cooking skills. When the Two Tired Teachers were there, the line waiting to get in was fairly long out the door.

The Two Tired Teachers also visited the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. A herd of over 2,000 bison have are free to roam on this 15 mile area. A visitors center and small gift shop offering souvenirs is deep in the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.

Camping in a corp of engineers park was easy because Oklahoma corp of engineers park was beautiful. It is a coe campground in Tulsa area. Camping at Birch Cove was a great experience.
