Skógafoss is a waterfall found on Iceland’s picturesque South Coast, located close to the village of Skógar, which itself lies south of Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Measuring 60 metres (197 ft) high, with a width of 25 metres (82 ft), Skógafoss is considered a staple stop on sightseeing tours in South Iceland.

The waterfall is located on the Skógá river, approximately 149 kilometres from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Visitors to Skógafoss can either view the waterfall from the base—they’re able to walk right up to the cascading water!—or from the top, following a steep staircase that trails the waterfall’s side to an observation deck.

According to legend, an ancient treasure chest was hidden behind Skógafoss by one of the area’s earliest settlers, Þrasi Þórólfsson. Since his death in 900 AD, many attempts have been made to locate the chest, with locals even managing to grab a handle from the chest before it broke off.

As part of my 4 day hiking and northern lights searching tour in Iceland, we trekked for about 9 hours at Thorsmork located in the southern region of Iceland. Both awe-inspiringly beautiul and excitingly treacherous, this was a unique adventure I truly enjoyed.

We stayed at Basar Hut for 3 nights (location below) and hiked towards Fimmvörðuháls and back.

BEST DAY IN ICELAND | Black Diamond Beach & Skogafoss Waterfall

Iceland day 3 // The Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon at the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is incredible! We started across the street from the glacial lagoon at Black Diamond Beach. Chunks of glacier from the river wash up onto the black sand, and it is so beautiful! We also tried some Icelandic hotdogs, and finished the day at the massive Skogafoss Waterfall!

Places to visit in Iceland: Seljalandsfoss [Timelapse]

What can I say other then that to live in a country like Iceland is a privilege. There is so much to see and a lot of the things to see are close to the main road around Iceland. About 1 hour and 40 minuts from downtown Reykjavik you will find this amazing waterfall. The waterfall is called: Seljalandsfoss

Drove with my father to Þórsmörk Iceland over the weekend. Þórsmörk is a national park here in Iceland, and it's so so beautiful. One of my favourite places in Iceland. I hiked up on a volcano and created this travel film.
