    Symi, also transliterated as Syme or Simi , is a Greek island and municipality. It is mountainous and includes the harbor town of Symi and its adjacent upper town Ano Symi, as well as several smaller localities, beaches, and areas of significance in history and mythology. Symi is part of the Rhodes regional unit.The economy of Symi was traditionally based on the shipbuilding and sponge industries. The population reached 22,500 at its peak during that period. Symi's main industry is now tourism, and its permanent population has declined to 2,500, with a larger population during the summer.

    The St. John the Baptist Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in Santorini, Greece, and serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santorini which was created in 1204. The cathedral is located in the city center, in the Catholic neighborhood. The church was built in 1823 and was completely restored and rebuilt in 1970, after the earthquake of 1956. The building is baroque and blue gray and cream are combined.

The island measures 40 by 8 kilometres , and is 4 km from the coast of the ancient region of Caria in Turkey. Administratively, Kos constitutes a municipality within the Kos regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean region. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Kos town.
