Southern Norway is the geographical region along the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway. The region is an informal description since it does not have any governmental function. It roughly corresponds to the old petty kingdom of Agder as well as the two present-day counties of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder. The total combined area of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties is 16,493 square kilometres .     Fjære is a former municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. The 60.4-square-kilometre municipality existed from 1846 until 1971. It was located to the north of the town of Grimstad. The name is still used to refer to that area, which is now a part of Grimstad municipality. The administrative centre of Fjære was the village of Vik, just east of the historic Fjære Church. Other villages in Fjære included Fevik, Dømmesmoen, Frivold, Kroken, and Rønnes.

The red, brick, cruciform church is a basilica in the neo-Gothic style. The long church has short cross-arms, but seats about 1,200 people.

    Tromøy Church is a parish church in Arendal municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Brekka on the east coast of the island of Tromøy. It is one of the two churches for the Tromøy parish which is part of the Arendal prosti in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. This was the main church for the municipality of Tromøy from 1878 until its dissolution in 1992. The white, stone church was built around the year 1150 and over the centuries it was enlarged and expanded. In 1748, the church was converted into a cruciform design by the architect Ole Nielsen Weierholt. The church now seats about 290 people. As a medieval building, it automatically has protected cultural heritage status.

    Høvåg Church is a parish church in Lillesand municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Høvåg. The church is part of the Høvåg parish in the Vest-Nedenes deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built around the year 1100 with designs by an unknown architect. Extensions to the structure were made in 1767 expanding its original size. In 1828-1831, the church was restored and a wing was added on to the north facing wall. The cruciform church now seats about 315 people.

    Høyjord stave church is a stave church in the village of Høyjord in Andebu in the municipality of Sandefjord in Vestfold county, Norway. It is the only stave church left in Vestfold County. The church was built at the end of the 11th century. The church was later removed once and rebuilt. The last reconstruction was completed between 1948 and 1953, at which time major changes were made and the church received the design it has today. The church is also the only remaining stave church in Vestfold county. The church is one of two preserved churches with a pillar or post in the middle. In addition to this central post there are 12 staves, all of which support the building. Each stave has a unique design.
