The area is known for its sugar white sand beaches, lush tropical landscape, and winter resort economy.Definitions of the region vary, though its boundaries are generally considered to put it south of the Tampa Bay area, west of Lake Okeechobee, and mostly north of the Everglades and to include Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and Collier counties.     Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium is a non-profit environmental education organization in Fort Myers, Florida. Located on 105 acres, the Center includes a natural history museum with live native and teaching animals, and exhibits about the animals, plants and environment of Southwest Florida. There are three nature trails, a planetarium, butterfly house, and a bird aviary with rehabilitated birds of prey. There is also a gift shop, and meeting and picnic areas.
