Starke is a city in Bradford County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,449 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bradford County.Starke may have been named in honor of developer George W. Cole's fiancée or in honor of Madison Starke Perry, fourth governor of Florida and a Confederate States Army colonel. The Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, adds that the city may have been named after Thomas Starke, a slaveholder who once owned much land around the area.

1. Camp Blanding Museum and Memorial Park Starke
Camp Blanding Joint Training Center is the primary military reservation and training base for the Florida National Guard, both the Florida Army National Guard and certain non-flying activities of the Florida Air National Guard. The installation is located in Clay County, Florida near the city of Starke. The site measures approximately 73,000 acres and includes Kingsley Lake. It also hosts other Reserve, Army National Guard, Air National Guard, and some Active Component training for the U.S. Armed Forces. Additionally, Camp Blanding serves as a training center for many ROTC units, both Army and Naval, as well as serving for the Florida Wing Summer Encampment for the Civil Air Patrol/US Air Force Auxilary's Cadet Program each year. Scenic US 301 through Florida: Micanopy, Ocala, Wildwood

Scenic US 301 provides a great alternative to Interstate 75 through central Florida. I took this route on Scenic US 301 on my way back to Tampa, in search of some antique stores. There are plenty of antique stores, and a lot of great rolling farmland along Scenic US 301.

This drive begins on Interstate 75 on the outskirts of Gainesville. I exited the interstate at Micanopy, checked out this quaint small town, then joined US 441 for the drive down to Scenic US 301, which took me on to Ocala and Wildwood, Florida.

I made this trip in October 2018.
