Sukhumi or Sokhumi is a city on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of the breakaway Republic of Abkhazia which has controlled it since the 1992-93 war in Abkhazia, although most of the international community considers it legally part of Georgia. Sukhumi's history can be traced back to the 6th century BC, when it was settled by Greeks, who named it Dioscurias. During this time and the subsequent Roman period, much of the city disappeared under the Black Sea. The city was named Tskhumi when it became part of the Kingdom of Abkhazia. The Kamani Monastery is located at the village of Kamani in Abkhazia/Georgia, north of Sukhumi. The monastery building is a 1980s construction on the foundations of a medieval church.The locale of Kamani, also known as Komani, is associated in the local Abkhaz-Georgian legends with Saint John Chrysostom, who allegedly died there after being exiled from Constantinople to the Black Sea coast. In 1884, the Greek scholar Konstantinos Vrissis visited the area and conjectured that it was Kamani, not Comana Pontica, where John Chrysostom died and was initially buried.Only the foundation survived of a medieval stone monastic building, a hall church design without a protruding apse. In the 1880s, under the Russian rule, a Christian convent was founded there, but it fell in disuse with the arrival o...

We also had an amazing time making georgian food and learned how to make georgian bread and churchkela. We also had a wine tour and learned about the different types of georgian wine. I have to say that Georgian wine is HANDS DOWN THE BEST wine I've had in my life! Especially the house wine! DELICIOUS! It was also interesting to learn about the Georgian wine making history!
Tbilisi is amazing, but stepping away from Tbilisi to the outskirts of Georgia is also an amazing experience!
The wine tour included a city tour of Signani. There we also got the chance to see the signani city walls. And while traveling to Kazbegi, we stopped by the Zinvali dam, Ananuri Fort and Gudauri mountain which was COVERED in snow at the moment! We also experienced our very first snow here in Kazbegi. An experience we will never forget in our life! And Rooms, hotels in Kazbegi is SIMPLY MIND BLOWING! We loved Georgia, and we wish to travel to Georgia again soon in summer!

ABKHAZIA - Smallest METRO SYSTEM in the world?

Late Fall Colors at North Georgia's Fabulous Gibbs Gardens

North Georgia’s Gibbs Gardens has a spectacular display of fall colors highlighted by its 2,000 Japanese maples. I did the photography in this video on a late November visit to the Gardens. Most of the trees had lost their leaves but a few varieties of the maples and the burning bushes were still quite colorful.

I really enjoy taking photos of the leaves that have fall on the ground and this video has a lot of these images.
