The coastal city of Kuala Terengganu which stands at the mouth of the broad Terengganu River is both the state and royal capital as well as the largest city in Terengganu. There are many islands located close to the coast of Terengganu state, such as Redang Island.

    Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah is the 18th and current Sultan of Terengganu. He served as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the constitutional monarch of Malaysia, from 2006 to 2011. He is Malay by ethnicity and an adherent of Sunni Islam, both of which are prerequisites for Malaysian royalty.

  • 3. Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque Kuala Terengganu
    The Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque or the Floating Mosque is the first real floating mosque in Malaysia. It is situated in Kuala Ibai Lagoon near the estuary of Kuala Ibai River, 4 km from Kuala Terengganu Town. Construction began in 1993 and finished in 1995. The mosque was officially opened in July 1995 by Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, the late Sultan of Terengganu. The mosque combines modern and Moorish architecture; incorporating the use of marble, ceramics, mosaic works and bomanite paving. The white structure of the mosque covers an area of roughly 5 acres and can accommodate up to 2000 attendees at a time.

  • 4. Wat Photivihan Sleeping Buddha Tumpat
    Wat Photivihan is a Buddhist temple in Tumpat District, Kelantan, Malaysia. The temple is one of 25 temples found in Tumpat, and is one of the most popular in the country. The temple houses a 40-metre statue of a sleeping Buddha, which is the longest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The devotees of this temple are mainly ethnic Thais, and the temple itself is a typical Thai Buddhist temple. There is a Chinese Pavilion and a Tibetan style hall featuring a statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara with 18 arms. The compound also includes accommodation for monks and visitors. There is plenty of free parking and entrance to the temple is free. Donations are always welcome.
