In this episode of the David’s Been Here web show, David takes viewers through the beautiful lands of Meteora, Greece. Situated in Thessaly, Meteora lies in the heart of Greece. Meteora literally translates into 'suspended in the air’. Here David shows and tells us what to see and do in Meteora, Greece.

Meteora has two main towns, Kastraki village and the town of Kalabaka, which is home to the majority of hotels, restaurants, and shops. A must-do for anyone is a guided half-day bus tour. You’ll get to experience the unique landscapes of Meteora's stone forest. Even from the bus there are incredible vistas. You’ll stop at the Great Meteoran Monastery, which is the oldest, tallest, and largest monastery here. Admission to the monastery is 3 euros.

David’s bus tour also stops by one of the most ancient sites in Greece, Theopetra Prehistoric Cave. Since excavations began in the 80’s several important finds have been made. Among them include human bones, stone tools and human footprints dating back 135,000 years!

Meteora also has a lot in store for adventure travelers. One of the main activities is hiking through the Stone Forest. When you go on your hike, your guide will give you history lessons and legends along the way. If you’re willing to do a short but challenging climb, you’ll be rewarded with picturesque views from Dragon’s Cave.

Adrenaline junkies: Meteora has you covered. If you want to bring the adventure up a notch, try scramble hiking. This type of hike is similar to rock climbing but requires less equipment and the use of your hands to pull yourself up the ropes. You’ll be rewarded with epic views of Kalabaka. Traditional rock climbing is also an option for experienced and newbie climbers alike.

And if you didn't know Meteora has wineries! Loudas Winery is a family-run boutique winery 5 minutes from Kalabaka. They’ve been open since 2006 and specialize in both Greek and international varieties. Come to taste some of Meteora’s most popular wines and buy gifts for your family and friends back home. If you’re there during the September harvest season you’ll get to see the winemaking process first hand, and possibly get a tour from the owner himself.

If you’re wondering how to limit what to see and do in Meteora, just know this: You CAN’T miss a sunset tour. There are two popular viewpoints where groups gather to see the sunset. 1. Ναύπλιο

«Λίγες πόλεις αντανακλούν την πλούσια και διαφορετική ιστορία της Ελλάδας όπως το Ναύπλιο, ένας από τους πιο κομψούς και ρομαντικούς προορισμούς. Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, historically also known as Hellas, is a country located in Southern and Southeast Europe, with a population of approximately 11 million as of 2016. Athens is the nation's capital and largest city, followed by Thessaloniki.

Greece is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Situated on the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula, it shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the northeast. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea to the west, the Cretan Sea and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Greece has the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Basin and the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13,676 km (8,498 mi) in length, featuring a large number of islands, of which 227 are inhabited. Eighty percent of Greece is mountainous, with Mount Olympus being the highest peak at 2,918 metres (9,573 ft). The country consists of nine geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese and Cyclades), Thrace, Crete, and the Ionian Islands.

Greece is considered the cradle of Western civilisation, being the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, Western literature, historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and Western drama, as well as the Olympic Games. From the eighth century BC, the Greeks were organised into various independent city-states, known as poleis (singular polis), which spanned the entire Mediterranean region and the Black Sea. Philip of Macedon united most of the Greek mainland in the fourth century BC, with his son Alexander the Great rapidly conquering much of the ancient world, spreading Greek culture and science from the eastern Mediterranean to India. Greece was annexed by Rome in the second century BC, becoming an integral part of the Roman Empire and its successor, the Byzantine Empire, wherein Greek language and culture were dominant. Rooted in the first century A.D., the Greek Orthodox Church helped shape modern Greek identity and transmitted Greek traditions to the wider Orthodox World. Falling under Ottoman dominion in the mid-15th century, the modern nation state of Greece emerged in 1830 following a war of independence. Greece's rich historical legacy is reflected by its 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The sovereign state of Greece is a unitary parliamentary republic and developed country with an advanced high-income economy, a high quality of life, and a very high standard of living. A founding member of the United Nations, Greece was the tenth member to join the European Communities (precursor to the European Union) and has been part of the Eurozone since 2001. It is also a member of numerous other international institutions, including the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). Greece's unique cultural heritage, large tourism industry, prominent shipping sector and geostrategic importance[a] classify it as a middle power. It is the largest economy in the Balkans, where it is an important regional investor.

Tourism has been a key element of the economic activity in the country and one of the country's most important sectors, contributing 18% of the gross domestic product. Greece welcomed over 28 million visitors in 2016, which is an increase from the 26.5 million tourists it welcomed in 2015 and the 19.5 million in 2009, and the 17.7 million tourists in 2007, making Greece one of the most visited countries in Europe in the recent years.

Ancient Corinth - Greece HD Travel Channel

In ancient Corinth in Greece, only the remains of the Temple of Zeus bear witness from the archaic city. Otherwise, the ruins are strongly influenced by the Roman past. In the centre of the Agora one can still recognize the speaker's platform where the apostle Paulus had to justify himself before the Roman dictators.
The well house of the Peirene Fountain is in good conditon; Peirene, a nymph in Greek mythology, is said to be the daughter of the river god Asospus. Many statues once surrounded the large pool.
The wide Lechaion Road, the main shopping street of Ancient Corinth today, still conveys the vitality of yore.
From the theater, only the foundations are still visible.
The adjacent museum displays rich murals, mosaics and sculptures.
A mighty citadel rises on a hill above the ancient town. Byzantines, Franks, Ottomans and Venetians have all left their traces here.

Im antiken Korinth in Griechenland zeugen nur noch die Reste des Zeustempels von der archaischen Stadt. Ansonsten sind die Ruinen stark von der römischen Vergangenheit geprägt.
Im Zentrum der Agora ist die Rednerbühne erkennbar vor der sich der Apostel Paulus vor den römischen Machthabern verantworten musste.
Gut erhalten ist das Brunnenhaus der Quelle der Peirene, einer Nymphe der griechischen Mythologie. Viele Statuen umgaben einst das große Schwimmbecken.
Die breite Lechaion-Straße, die Einkaufsstrasse Korinths, vermittelt noch heute die Vitalität, die sich hier einst gezeigt hat.
Vom Theater sind nur noch die Grundmauern erkennbar.
Das benachbarte Museum zeigt reichhaltige Wandmalereien, Mosaike und Plastiken.
Über der antiken Stadt erhebt sich auf einem Hügel eine gewaltige Zitadelle. Byzantiner, Franken, Osmanen und Venezianer haben hier ihre Spuren hinterlassen.

13. Mykonos
Mykonos is famed as a cosmopolitan destination amongst the Greek islands and widely recognised as one of the great travel meccas. It is one of the most touristed islands in the Aegean. This means that any visitors should be prepared for loud dance clubs, English breakfasts and over-priced merchandise.

12. Nisyros' Volcano
Nisyros, with fewer than 1000 permanent inhabitants, is famous for having the only 'active' volcano in Greece together with Santorini. The island is essentially a volcanic cone with a large collapsed caldera in the center. It is possible to walk into the volcanic crater and view the smoking fumaroles at close hand.

Preveli beach and lagoon, sometimes known locally as Palm Beach, is located below the monastery, at the mouth of the Kourtaliótiko gorge. Behind the beach is an extensive glade of palm trees. The beach is regularly served by tourist boats from the nearby resort of Plakias.

Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. This is a list of things you should know before you travel to Greece.
Greece, which is known in ancient times as Hellas, is a country located in southeastern Europe. There are over 10 million people living in Greece (as of 2011). The country is divided into 9 geographic regions: Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Crete, Thrace, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Ionian Islands and the Aegean Islands.The modern Greek state came about following their independence from the Ottoman Empire during the 1830s. Today, Greece is a highly developed and democratic country. The quality of life and economic condition is high. Greece is also one of the founding members of the United Nations.
The geography of Greece is dominated by mountainous, peninsular mainland. The Greek coastline is listed as the 11th longest in the world. There are also several islands that consist of Greece and several of these are frequented by tourists. Meanwhile, its Mediterranean climate offers wet winters and hot and dry summers.
