Toamasina [toˈmasinə̥], meaning like salt or salty, unofficially and in French also Tamatave, is the capital of the Atsinanana region on the east coast of Madagascar on the Indian Ocean. The city is the chief seaport of the country, situated 215 km northeast of its capital and biggest city Antananarivo, near the centre of the eastern coast at 18 10 S, 49 32 E. According to the 2013 official estimate, Toamasina had a population of 274,667. The city is served by Toamasina Airport.

1. Masoala National Park Maroantsetra
Masoala National Park, in northeast Madagascar, is the largest of the island's protected areas. Most of the park is situated in Sava Region and a part in Analanjirofo. Created in 1997, the park protects 2,300 square kilometres of rainforest and 100 square kilometres of marine parks. The Masoala peninsula is exceptionally diverse due to its huge size, and variety of habitats. Altogether, the park protects tropical rainforest, coastal forest, flooded forest, marsh, and mangrove. Three marine parks protect coral reefs and a dazzling array of marine life. Masoala provides an excellent opportunity to experience the unique flora and fauna of the big island. Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is a 155 square kilometre protected area, located about 150 km east of Antananarivo, consisting principally of primary growth forest in Alaotra-Mangoro Region in eastern Madagascar. The park's elevation ranges from 800–1260 meters, with a humid climate. Average annual precipitation is 1700 mm, with rainfall on 210 days of each year. This rainforest is habitat to a vast species biodiversity, including many endemic rare species and endangered species, including 11 lemur species. Zahamena National Park is a national park of Madagascar. Established in 1997, it covers an area of 423 square kilometres out of a total protected area of 643 square kilometres . Nosy Mangabe is a small island reserve located in Antongil Bay about 2 km offshore from the town of Maroantsetra in north-east Madagascar. it is accessible by small boat and is part of the larger Masoala National Park complex. It is a tropical rainforest preserve and sanctuary for a species of lemur, the aye-aye . It lies close enough to Maroantsetra for a day trip, although an overnight stay is recommended for seeing the nocturnal aye-aye.

Analamazaotra Special Reserve is a wildlife reserve of Madagascar, and is part of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. The reserve is toward the northeast portion of the island, and is nearly centered between the coast. The neighbouring Analamazaotra Forest Station is a local reforestation effort. The reserve is situated in the region Alaotra-Mangoro, close to Moramanga and Andasibe.

Maroantsetra [maronˈtseʈʂə̥] is the main point of access to Masoala National Park and the Nosy Mangabe special reserve, and the headquarters of the park authority. Access to the town is mainly by air, with regular connections to Toamasina and Antananarivo or by sea. While Route Nationale 5 runs south along the coast to Mananara Nord and Toamasina, it is little more than a forest track for much of its length and frequently impassable. There are no roads into the town from the north or west.

The English Club was founded in 2012 and meets Saturday mornings from 8: 30 to 10 at the Centre Régional de l'Institut National de Formation Pédagogique, Antsiranana. As it is a club its main focus is to teach English with fun, but focused on academic training based on syllabus learned at school and adapted to children's needs and levels All people who deal with the club's activities are volunteers. I met their excellent Teacher Trainer, Floris Saula, when exploring the area.
