Buffalo is the second largest city in the U.S. state of New York and the largest city in Western New York. As of July 2016, the population was 256,902. The city is the county seat of Erie County, and a major gateway for commerce and travel across the Canada–United States border, forming part of the bi-national Buffalo Niagara Region.
Buffalo is on the eastern shore of Lake Erie, at the head of the Niagara River, 16 miles south of Niagara Falls. Its early embrace of electric power led to the nickname The City of Light.
Buffalo ist mit 261.325 Einwohnern (laut der letzten Volkszählung im Jahr 2010, Schätzung 2016: rund 257.000) die zweitgrößte Stadt des US-Bundesstaates New York. In der Metropolregion Buffalo-Niagara leben über 1,1 Millionen Einwohner. Buffalo ist Verwaltungssitz des Erie County und liegt an der Nordostspitze des Eriesees nicht weit von den Niagarafällen entfernt. Heute ist Buffalo eine moderne Industrie- und Hafenstadt.
Der Name Buffalo stammt von „Buffalo Creek“ ab, welches 1759 bis 1760 erstmals auf einer Karte auftauchte; der Ursprung dieses Namens ist nicht belegbar.
Im deutschsprachigen Raum ist Buffalo vermutlich am bekanntesten durch das Gedicht John Maynard von Theodor Fontane. Eine an dieses Gedicht erinnernde Bronzetafel wurde 1997 in Buffalo enthüllt.

Robert took Debra on a trip down memory lane while we were passing through the southern tier of New York. We visited his old stomping grounds, his college and there’s a surprise reveal that involves an antique carousel. Debra enjoyed the architecture and said she thought she was in a movie set. Appropriate …. since this video includes a bank possibly being robbed. Plus Binghamton ignited Debra’s imagination so much so that it will serve as the setting for the final story in Debra’s next book.

July 8, 2015 - OK, that's it! I've had it! I spent a week in 'Murrica and just had to get back to my home and native land. Via the Peace Bridge, I leave Buffalo, NY behind and enter Fort Erie, Ontario, via Queen Elizabeth Way, only 22 minutes away from Niagara Falls.
The international border between Canada and the United States is at the centre of this bridge, where all the flags are erected. Obviously.
