The largest city in Slovakia, as well as being the capital, Bratislava lies on the River Danube and borders both Austria and Hungary. Come here for a trip to the imposing Bratislava Castle, perched on a plateau above the city and originally built in the 10th century.

Bratislava - historically Pressburg and Pozsony is the capital of the Slovak Republic and, with a population of about 429,000, also the country's largest city. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia on both banks of the Danube River. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries.It and Vienna are also two of Europe's closest national capitals, at less than 60 kilometres apart.
Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the executive branch of the government. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions are also headquartered in it.
The history of the city, long known by the German name Pressburg and by the Hungarian Pozsony, has been strongly influenced by people of different nations, namely by Austrians, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Jews and Slovaks. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary under the Habsburg Monarchy[5] from 1536 to 1783, and has been home to many Slovak, Hungarian and German historical figures

Slovakia Scenic Drive - Trnava to Bratislava D1
Today morning drive from Trnava to Bratislava. It was one of happier days as there was not as much traffic and only small delay due to traffic jams. This scenic drive start near railway station in Trnava and goes through Hrnciarovce nad Parnou village where the road connects to D1 highway. Afterwards there are couple of exits and finally arriving to Bratislava and traffic jams. In Bratislava I left D1 highway at 2nd exit - Airport and Avion shopping center where I entered underground garage.

The ruins of Spiš Castle (Slovak: Spišský hrad, Hungarian: Szepesi vár, German: Zipser Burg) in eastern Slovakia form one of the largest castle sites in Central Europe. The castle is situated above the town of Spišské Podhradie and the village of Žehra, in the region known as Spiš (Hungarian: Szepes, German: Zips, Polish: Spisz, Latin: Scepusium). It was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993 (together with the adjacent locations of Spišská Kapitula, Spišské Podhradie and Žehra). This is one of the biggest European castles by area (41 426 m²).( )

Spišský hrad je hradná zrúcanina zaberajúca vrchol travertínovej kopy Spišský hradný vrch, tvoriaca dominantu širokého okolia na hlavnom cestnom ťahu spájajúcom východoslovenské regióny Spiš a Šariš. Je nielen dokladom vývoja architektúry od 12. do 18. storočia u nás, ale svojou rozlohou prevyšujúcou 4 hektáre (presne 41 426 m²) je jedným z najväčších hradných komplexov na Slovensku a aj v Európe.
Napriek tomu, že sa vypína nad mestom Spišské Podhradie, katastrálne patrí územiu obce Žehra (jej miestnej časti Hodkovce) v okrese Spišská Nová Ves v Košickom kraji.( )

Zamek Spiski -- zabytkowy kompleks zamkowy na Słowacji z przełomu XI i XII wieku jest zaliczany do największych tego typu w środkowej Europie, cały kompleks zamkowy zajmuje powierzchnię ok. 4 ha. Obecnie większość zamku jest zrujnowana, część murów obronnych została odbudowana współcześnie. Zamek położony jest na na terenie Żehry (Žehra), która należy do najstarszych miejscowości na Spiszu. W 1993 roku w uznaniu jego znaczenia dla kultury tych ziem, został on wpisany wraz okolicą na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.( )
