Bihać, Una National Park (Štrbački buk waterfalls)
ROAD TRIP ACROSS BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA (2017)
We traveled across Bosnia and Herzegovina for six days with our 4x4 off-road vehicle, exploring cities, castles, waterfalls, mountains and other sights and attractions! The places we visited included: Bihać, Una National Park, Jajce, Vlašić mountain, Sarajevo, Trebević mountain, Banja Luka and Kozara mountain.
In this first part of a multi-episode VLOG series, join us on our trip to the city of Bihać, located in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Unsko-sanski kanton (province). The crystal-clear Una river runs through the city of Bihać and makes this part of the country a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Locals enjoyed the summer heat, brought out their boats and took a refreshing swim in the chilly mountain river. After our visit to Bihać, we moved on to see some more sights in the surrounding area, including Brekovica village overlooking the Una river canyon, Ostrožac castle (unfortunately, it was closed!) and Una National Park with its impressive Štrbački buk waterfalls. Already on Day 1, we were glad to have our off-road vehicle, as the access road to the waterfalls turned out to be unpaved and in pretty terrible shape.
We had a great time in Una-Sana canton and think that this region has a huge potential for tourism, not only because of Una river but also thanks to the proximity to Plitvice Lakes National Park just across the border in Croatia.
In the second part of this video series, we will take you to Jajce and explore the old town, the fortress and the famous waterfalls right in the city center.

Why you should travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina has a lot to offer. Still under the radar of most tourists it is still a hidden gem in the heart of Europe. Take your time to enjoy and learn more about this Balkan country. It is definitely a country worth exploring. Best cities to go to are Mostar and Sarajevo. Tuzla is also a nice stop-over.

Most beautiful waterfalls in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Kravice waterfalls are one of a kind natural wonder in the region of Herzegovina. Situated very close to the pilgrimage site of Međugorje and only 40 kilometers away from Mostar, these waterfalls are the perfect picture of untouched nature at its peak.
This is the place where the Trebižat River falls down into a large waterfall, which height ranges from 26 – 28 meters, depending on the season.
Štrbački buk waterfall is a 25 m high waterfall on the Una River (296 m altitude). It is situated on the border between Croatia (Lika-Senj County, city Donji Lapac, settlement Kestenovac) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Una-Sana Canton, city Bihać, settlement Doljani and Celije). On Croatian side, „Una Mamea Park“ is located and on Bosnian and Herzegovinian „Una National Park“.
Martin Brod is the first major village in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Una National Park through which the river runs. This is also the home of the biggest waterfall on Una; it is some 54 meters high.
Skakavac waterfall is formed on the Perućica, a mountain creek, in Perućica primeval forest, which is regulated as a Strict Nature Reserve as part of Sutjeska National Park in Republika Srpska. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the country, at about 75 metres in height.
At 22 meters in height, the Pliva waterfall is one of the most beautiful features of Jajce. This natural monument is located in the very centre of the town and has been named one of twelve most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
On the river Kozice there are series of waterfalls making beautiful site. Even the fact it is hard to reach these areas, Kozice waterfalls are one of the most beautiful in the country reaching hight from 10 to 20 metres.
Skakavac is a waterfall located 12 km from Sarajevo and its height is about 98 m. The Skakavac waterfall near Sarajevo is one of the greatest and most attractive waterfalls in BiH and it stands for a real tourist attraction.

Geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in Southeastern Europe, in the western Balkans. It has a 932 km border with Croatia to the north and southwest, a 312 km border with Serbia to the east, and a 215 km border with Montenegro to the southeast. It borders the Adriatic Sea along its 20 km (12.42 mi) coastline. The most striking features of the local terrain are valleys and mountains which measure up to 2386 m in height. The country is mostly mountainous, encompassing the central Dinaric Alps. The northeastern parts reach into the Pannonian basin, while in the south it borders the Adriatic sea.
The country's name comes from the two regions, Bosnia on the north and Herzegovina on the south. The south part of the country has Mediterranean climate and a great deal of agriculture. Eastern Bosnia is heavily forested along the river Drina, and overall close to 50% of Bosnia and Herzegovina is forested. Most forest areas are in Central, Eastern and Western parts of Bosnia. Northern Bosnia contains very fertile agricultural land along the river Sava and the corresponding area is heavily farmed. The country has only 20 kilometres of coastline,around the town of Neum.
In anthrop-geographical field the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a bridge between Europe and Asia. Such geographical relations have influenced the historical destiny of the people and inhabitants populating the land.
