It is located in the centre of the country, bordering the Eemmeer in the north, the province of Gelderland in the east, the river Rhine and Lek in the south, the province of South Holland in the west and the province of North Holland in the north-west. With an area of approximately 1,400 square kilometres , it is the second smallest of the twelve Dutch provinces. The museum was closed in 2007 due to asbestos contamination and a large modernization, but the museum reopened in May 2009.

    The Museum Catharijneconvent is a museum of religious art in Utrecht in the Netherlands. It is located in the former St. Catharine convent, having been sited there since 1979. Its collections include many artifacts from the museum of religious art of the Catholic Archbishopric of Utrecht, located in the convent until 1979. In 2006 the convent closed for restoration. It is part of the Utrecht Museum Night.
