Are All Human Remains Equal? The Protection of Native American Burial Rights
Utilizing a brief narrative compiling three years of research in the field of burial ground protection, specifically on the Townsend I & II Sites located in Lewes, Delaware, I examine the intricacies of local, state and national legislation and the role of local Indigenous as well as Non-Indigenous descendants pertaining to the protection Indigenous Human Remains. Comparing Marked Remains versus Unmarked Remains and Indigenous Remains versus Non-Indigenous Remains (i.e. African American Burial Grounds located in New York City) proves critical to this discussion on the equality of protection of burial grounds and sacred sites which also contain significant archaeological materials.
NMPBS ¡COLORES!: Godfrey Reggio
This week, COLORES! presents a special evening with one of New Mexico’s most renowned filmmakers, Godfrey Reggio, Friday, April 10 at 9:00 pm on Ch.5.1. This evening begins with a new, full-length, in-depth interview with Reggio, the creator of the internationally acclaimed film KOYAANIQATSI. Immediately following the interview, New Mexico PBS will broadcast Reggio’s ground-breaking and visionary feature film, KOYAANIQATSI, in its entirety, beginning at 9:30 pm.
In this COLORES! interview, Reggio shares his vision for the making of this film, and his provocative philosophy behind his legendary Qatsi Trilogy. “We live in a world more real than true, so I wanted to make an effort to make a film more true than real,” says Reggio.
KOYAANISQATSI draws upon Hopi Prophecy. “Qatsi” is a Hopi word that means life and “Koyaanis” means crazy, or out of balance. The film contains a profound prophetic message about how we live on earth…a message that is as relevant today, as when the film debuted in 1983.
Reggio has created a different kind of film, submerging the audience in a cinematic experience. With no actors, no storyline, or dialogue, Reggio relies primarily on slow motion and time-lapse photography accompanied by a dynamic score by Philip Glass.
“All of my films are predicated on seeing, in a new way, the world in which we live, which for me is hidden in plain sight,” continues Reggio. “We’re blinded. We are not seeing the world we live in. Art can help us re-see that world.”

Speed limits in the United States vary depending on jurisdiction, with 75 to 80 mph (120 to 130 km/h) common in the Western United States and 65 to 75 mph (100 to 120 km/h) common in the Eastern United States. States may also set special speed limits for trucks and night travel along with minimum speed limits. The highest speed limit in the country is 85 mph (140 km/h), which is posted on a single stretch of tollway in rural Texas.
