Velventos is a town and a former municipality in Kozani regional unit, West Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Servia-Velventos, of which it is a municipal unit. It lies at the foot of the Pierian Mountains, 33 km northeast of the city of Kozani. It is located near the artificial lake of Polyfyto. The 2011 census recorded 3,360 people in the village of Velventos, 3,399 in the municipal community and 3,448 in the municipal unit. Since 1986, nearly every year, various initiators organize marathons in the Olympus Mountains in Greece. For these Olympus Marathons the classic distance of 42.195 kilometers provides a clue to the distance of some of the runs in the Olympus. Starting in 2010, events established that surpass the classic marathon distance. In some races, runners run over distances of 57 km, 70 km or almost 100 km. At the stations along the route, the runners are provided with drinks and snacks and mostly medical aid. They are offered water, electrolytic drinks, bananas, salty biscuits, sandwiches, chocolates and more. The medical care is provided by rescue services. The fastest runners finishes the race in about four hours.

The Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus is a Greek Orthodox monastery on the slopes of Mount Olympus, the most important monastery in the Pieria Prefecture. It is located at the Enipeas ravine at an altitude of 850 m The original monastery was established in 1542, was destroyed by the Germans in 1943. A new monastery was established at a distance of some 5 km to the northeast of the old one, closer to the town of Litochoro. . The Agios Dionysios Monastery is a stauropegic monastery, subordinated directly to the Patriarch of Constantinople . Beside the monasteries Kanalon and Agia Triada, Sparmos it is one of the monasteries located at Mount Olympus.

Edessa, known as city of waters, is a city in northern Greece and the capital of the Pella regional unit, in the Central Macedonia region of Greece. It was also the capital of the defunct province of the same name.

Edessa holds a special place in the history of the Greek world as, according to some ancient sources, it was here that Caranus established the first capital of ancient Macedon. Later, under the Byzantine Empire, Edessa benefited from its strategic location, controlling the Via Egnatia as it enters the Pindus mountains, and became a center of medieval Greek culture, famed for its strong walls and fortifications.In the modern period, Edessa was one of Greece's industrial centers until the middle of the 20th century, with many textile factories operating in the city and its immediate vicinity. Today however its economy mainly relies on services and tourism. Edessa hosts most of the administrative services of the Pella regional unit, as well as some departments of the Thessaloniki-based University of Macedonia.

Skra is located only 4km away from the boarders of FYROM and extends over the NE slopes of Paiko mountain at an altitude of 520 m. Its former name was Lioumnitsa, while its present name was taken from the nearby mountain top Skra di Legen where the homonym battle (Skra-Ravine) took place during the First World War. This battle was of great importance for the course of Greek State and the First World War.

With its characteristic proud old plane tree in the center of the village, Skra is considered to be a place of celebration in honor of the homonym battle, while every year on 17th of May a memorial ceremony for the officers and the soldiers of that battles belonging to the so called Greek Division of Crete and Archipelago is held at the Monument to those who died in 1918.

Since May 2002, the Museum of the First World War- Skra Battle has been operating in Skra, housed in a specially constructed area. The Museum exhibition presents relics, photos and historic documents from the Macedonian battles of the First World War, as well as from the victorious Skra battle. The well known victorious battle took place on May 17, 1918.

Balkán Road Trip - Tour de Balkan

Balkán Road Trip, to nejlepší, co nám přinesla dovolená alá Tour de Balkan. Byl to Balkan Trip během kterého jsme navštívili Soluň, spali pod Olympem, koupali se v jezeru Ohrid, zvládli jsme výstup na Velký Koráb.

Taky jsme přežili albánské silnice, snídali ve městě Durrës, neutopili jsme se ve vlnách u města Petrovac a s radostí dojeli do Mostaru.

V něm jsme prošmejdili všechny uličky a na slavném Starém mostě čekali, jestli nějaký dobrodruh skočí.
Ke konci naší cesty jsme se zastavili v Sarajevu, kde bylo super posezení na tržišti Baščaršija.
Z Bosny jsme se vraceli zpátky domů do Brna, kde končil náš trip.
Byl to nejlepší Balkán Road Trip, jaký jsme si mohli přát.

Za 12 dní on the road jsme procestovali 11 zemí. Byly to 4000 km, které nám daly neskutečné množství zážitků, ze všech těch velkoměst, vesniček, písčitých pláží i drsných hor Balkánského poloostrova.
Balkan on the road - dobrodružství našeho léta 2017 a vůbec nejlepší dovolená.

Balkán Road Trip 2017 itinerář:
1. den: Brno [CZ] - Niš [SRB]
Startujeme z Brna s tím, že přes noc dojedeme do města Niš.
Prošli jsme se po centru a navštívili Nišskou pevnost. Pak jsme jeli na východ k jezeru Vlasina. U něj se dá bez omezení kempovat, takže jsme u něj přespali.

2. den: Vlasina [SRB] - Melnik [BGR]
Ráno jsme se sbalili a vyrazili směrem na Bosilegrad a bulharskou Dupnitsu. Odtud po dálnici do Blageovgradu, kde obědváme a když nám slehne šopák, jedeme dál. Cílem je městečko Melnik, které je známe pro své pískovcové pyramidy a výborné víno. Přespáváme kousíček za Melnikem u rusko-bulharského páru.

3. den: Melnik [BGR] - Katerini [GRE]
Kupodivu ráno necítíme vínko, takže startujeme dál na jih. Z Melniku je to na řecké hranice kousek a o pár hodin později už přijíždíme do Soluně (Thessaloniki). Procházka po nábřeží končí u Bílé věže a přes historické centrum se vydáváme nahoru na městské opevnění. Parkujeme přímo v přístavu, ze kterého popojíždíme ještě o něco jižněji a pod horou Olymp, která je kousek od města Katerini zůstáváme v kempu Gold Beach.

4. den: Katerini [GRE]
Odpočinkový den, kdy se jen válíme na pláži. Zajedeme si do Katerini na řecký gyros a užíváme si pohody a sluníčka.

5. den: Katerini [GRE] - Struga [MKD]
Napříč Řeckem přejedeme až do městečka Struga, které je coby kamenem dohodil od města Ohrid. Spíme v kempu Rino přímo u Ohridského jezera.

6. den: Struga [MKD] - Mavrovo [MKD]
Chceme vyjít na horu Velký Koráb a tak míříme na sever k Mavrovskému jezeru. Mavrovo nás překvapí, jak moc je vypuštěné. Odtud už je to jen cca 8 km horským průsmykem do základního tábora.

7. den: Velký Koráb [MKD] - Kavajë [ALB]
Kolem druhé odpolední, už jsme zpátky z výstupu na Golem Korab a vyrážíme do Albánie. Na hranicích máme celkem zácpu, ale nakonec se v nočních hodinách dostáváme do kempu Paemer u městečka Kavajë, který vypadá jako by vypadl z katalogu karibské cestovky.

8. den: kemp Paemer [ALB]
Odpočinkový den. Jedeme omrknout městečko Kavajë a relaxujeme u moře s vínkem a výborným albánským jídlem.

9. den: Durrës [ALB] - Petrovac [MNE]
Prolezeme celý Durrës, nechám se ostříhat. Holky nakoupí šaty v místním boutique a pak se posouváme do Černé hory k moři. U městečka Petrovac spíme v kempu, kde výborně vaří a mají fajn pivko = autokemp Buljarica.

10. den: Petrovac [MNE] - Buna [BIH]
Z Petrovace do městečka Buna za pár hodin. Jih Bosny působí dost depresivně, ale nakonec vše dobře dopadlo a my spali v kempu, který je jen asi 10 minut od Mostaru.

11. den: Mostar [BIH] - Sarajevo [BIH]
Ráno, ještě před návaly turistů, okukujeme Mostar. Kafíčko si dáváme s výhledem na historické centrum a Starý most. Vše je skvělé. Kolem oběda Mostar opouštíme a směřujeme do Sarajeva. Spíme v hostelu, nicméně kapacity jsou plné, takže vám ani nemůže přesně napsat, kde. Jen vím, že to bylo kousek od centra a národního divadla. Večer strávíme v příjemném rozpoložení na tržišti Baščaršija Bazaar. Je to dost přeplněné turisty, ale dá se najít klidný koutek.

12. den: Sarajevo [BIH] - Brno [BIH]
V devět ráno vyrážíme ze Sarajeva něco po desáté jsme šťastní a plní zážitků v Brně. Balkán Road Trip je u konce.
