Commuter Trains (RER) In and Around Paris, France

I think RER stands for reseau express régionale or thereabouts. Regional express network, kind of.
The SNCF is another, different system of commuter/long distance trains, operating in and around Paris, and there's also Corail -- ditto. RER trains South of Gare du Nord are SNCF, and the crew changes there for RATP employees. I know that's nutty, but that's why you have those delays at Gare du Nord. Hey, there's a point in the high speed train network in France where NO company runs the trains -- for many kilometers, the trains just speed up incredibly, and coast for quite a distance, hurtling on with no means of stopping, until the power comes back on farther down the line! There's no way for them to apply the brakes during that part of the trip, which is long. So far, no accidents have occurred -- at least none we know about. You read that right, there are sections of track here with no electricity, no power at all -- the electric trains coast for awhile at high speed until they get into the next segment, the next power grid. Believe me, I couldn't make this stuff up!
These trains are unreliable, expensive, often dirty, dangerous, are not accessible, and only some have toilets (although many travel great distances). You need the bladder and bowels of a junkie to endure them, and the sensibilities of a kamikaze zombie, and that's not fair to the kamikazes nor the zombies!
Avoid these trains at all cost. Look up the 350 and 351 city buses for details on how to get from CDG Roissy Airport into and out of Paris, and as for Orly Airport, avoid it completely. Ditto Beauvais.
If you must fly to France, consider the international airport at Brest, and stay in Quimper. It's wonderful and combines Breton culture with French. If you absolutely insist on going into Paris, you can take a TGV train from there.
