Vlorë is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania. It is the capital of the surrounding Vlorë County. Located on the southeastern Adriatic Sea, it is one of the country's southernmost dominant economic and cultural centers. Vlorë was founded as an Ancient Greek colony in the sixth century BC under the name of Aulon and has been continuously inhabited ever since. It became the seat of a bishopric.     Zvërnec is a community in Vlorë County. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Vlorë. It is situated northwest of the city of Vlorë. Zvërnec, together with nearby Nartë, is a Greek-speaking pocket in the area north of Vlorë. There are speakers of Aromanian also present in Zvërnec.The surrounding region is full of salt marshes. Narta Lagoon, which hosts a unique ecosystem, lies north of the village.Near the village lies the island that bears the same name, and the Byzantine St. Mary's Monastery dedicated to Virgin Mary.
