Its population was 29,899,699 according to the 2010 Census, living on an area of 1,038,000 square kilometers . Igor Komarov was appointed the federal district's Presidential Envoy on September 18, 2018. The historical center of the district is known as the Idel-Ural region.

    The Ufa Arena is an 8,250-seat multi-purpose arena in Ufa, Russia that opened in 2007. It has replaced Ice Palace Salavat Yulaev as the home of Kontinental Hockey League ice hockey team, Salavat Yulaev Ufa. The first events in the arena were the first two games of the 2007 Super Series, a hockey series between Canada and Russia juniors. There were issues during the game in which fog was building up over the ice surface during the game, as the ice had been chilled but the air conditioning was not yet functional because the building was incomplete at the time. The arena was the primary venue for the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, which was played from the last week of December, 2012 until the first week of January, 2013.

    Hockey Club Lokomotiv , also known as Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, is a Russian professional ice hockey team, based in the city of Yaroslavl, playing in the top level Kontinental Hockey League . The name of the team is derived from its owner, Russian Railways, the national railroad operator. On 7 September 2011, nearly the entire team perished in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash. The team's flight to a game in Minsk crashed during takeoff, killing all of the team's roster , all coaching staff and four players from the Loko 9 juniors squad of the Minor Hockey League The tragedy forced Lokomotiv Yaroslavl to cancel their participation in the 2011–12 KHL season.
