    Rainy Lake is a relatively large freshwater lake straddling the border between the United States and Canada. The Rainy River issues from the west side of the lake and is harnessed to make hydroelectricity for US and Canadian locations. The sister cities of International Falls, Minnesota, and Fort Frances, Ontario, are situated on either side of the outflow of the river from the lake. Rainy Lake and Rainy River establish part of the boundary between the US state of Minnesota and the Canadian province of Ontario.Voyageurs National Park is located on the southeastern corner of the lake, where it connects with Kabetogama and Namakan Lakes at Kettle Falls.     Crane Lake is an unincorporated community in Crane Lake Township, Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States; located within the Kabetogama State Forest. The community is located 27 miles northeast of Orr, along Saint Louis County Roads 23 and 24. Crane Lake is located 45 miles northeast of Cook. The northern terminus of County Road 24 is at Crane Lake. Crane Lake is the southern entry to the Voyageurs National Park; the western entry to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; and an entry into Canada.

    Kabetogama is an unincorporated community in Kabetogama Township, Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States, located within the Kabetogama State Forest. The community is located 27 miles southeast of International Falls on Saint Louis County Roads 122 and 123. Kabetogama is located 49 miles north of Cook. U.S. Highway 53 is nearby. Voyageurs National Park is in the vicinity. The boundary line between Saint Louis and Koochiching counties is also nearby.
