Our Norway Road-trip took us through some breathtaking roads & places, but Vradal stole our hearts.
A few hours away from Oslo, Vradal is situated on the banks of Lake Vravatn. This place is so quiet, that the only thing you can hear are the birds and rustling of leaves. Early morning and late at night when everything is still, the lake mirrors the surrounding hills to perfection. This is The Spot to cleanse away your soul.
The Great Escape to Oslo | VISIT NORWAY
When two travelling Kiwis found themselves trapped among selfie sticks in an overcrowded city, Oslo came to the rescue.
In Norway's capital they were served delicious food and wine, tried stand-up paddling on the Oslo Fjord, made use of Oslo's app-connected City Bikes, and last but not least, got to admire one of Munch's masterpieces completely undisturbed. So Marela and Sam's two days in Oslo were packed with experiences, but not with people.
Marela and Sam went to Bar Brutus, Himkok, the café at Astrup Fearnley Museet, Godt Brød Grünerløkka, Astral, Vippa Oslo, the National Gallery, Ekebergparken Sculpture Park and Blå. They stayed in an AirBnB accommodation in Barcode, used city bikes from Oslo Bysykkel, tried SUP with Aksel Kolstad (bookable through the Lokalii app), and went to a Sofar Sounds secret concert.
The rescue mission was made possible through The Great Escape – a collaboration organised through Oslo Brand Alliance, which includes Oslo Region, Oslo Business Region and VisitOSLO.

The 108 km long Sognefellet National tourist route is one of the many desired drives in Norway. An impressive and spell-binding landscape all along.

Vrådal (Kviteseid), Norway
Vrådal, formerly spelled Wraadahl, is a village in Kviteseid municipality, Norway. The village had a population of 220 as of 1 January 2009. The centre of the village is at Eidstod, which lies at the eastern end of the Vråvatn lake, where it flows into lake Nisser. The economy is based on tourism (hotels, camping and a ski-centre), light industry, and small-scale logging.
The name probably derives from the old Norse «vrá/ró» which means step, probably used to refer to farms which lay a little remotely - but it could also come from the fact that the valley is curved or stepped.
The village has a long-church built in 1866, Vrådal kirke.

Watch the movie and get an idea of the scenery surrounding the spectacular Telemark Canal which stretches 115 km from Skien to Dalen, through variety of landscapes and interesting cultural sights. In the short film you will see the Lunde area which is the central location for biking. Here you can rent bikes and get maps for several round trips. It is also possible to combine biking with a trip on one of the nostalgic canal boats. Then follow the bicyclists to Kilen, Strengen, Fjågesund bridge, Vrådal, alongside Vråvatn and Bandak lake before you end up at amazing Dalen and Dalen Hotel, located in an inland fjord covered by steep mountains.
