    Topiary is the horticultural practice of training perennial plants by clipping the foliage and twigs of trees, shrubs and subshrubs to develop and maintain clearly defined shapes, whether geometric or fanciful. The term also refers to plants which have been shaped in this way. As an art form it is a type of living sculpture. The word derives from the Latin word for an ornamental landscape gardener, topiarius, a creator of topia or places, a Greek word that Romans also applied to fictive indoor landscapes executed in fresco.     The Eau d'Heure lakes is a complex of five artificial lakes, forming the largest lake area in Belgium. The dams were built during the 1970s. The lakes are not far from the village of Cerfontaine, 50 kilometres south of the city of Charleroi, and the border with France. They are within the municipalities of Cerfontaine and Froidchapelle . The primary river feeding the lakes is the Eau d'Heure. There are five dams and one hydro-electric power station. The largest lake, the Lac de la Plate Taille, is itself the largest single lake in the country, at 3.74 square kilometres , while together the lakes have a surface area of 6.17 square kilometres .
