Whitley City is a census-designated place in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,170 at the 2010 census. Despite its name, it is not an incorporated city; however, it is the county seat of McCreary County. Whitley City is one of two non-city county seats in Kentucky . 2. Natural Bridge State Resort Park Slade
Natural Bridge State Resort Park is a Kentucky state park located in Powell and Wolfe Counties along the Middle Fork of the Red River, adjacent to the Red River Gorge Geologic Area and surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest. Its namesake natural bridge is the centerpiece of the park. The natural sandstone arch spans 78 ft and is 65 ft high. The natural process of weathering formed the arch over millions of years. The park is approximately 2,300 acres of which approximately 1,200 acres is dedicated by the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves as a nature preserve. In 1981 this land was dedicated into the nature preserves system to protect the ecological communities and rare species habitat. 3. Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo Horse Cave
Kentucky Down Under is an Australia-themed animal park located in Horse Cave, Kentucky, United States. In 1990, the park was opened by Bill and Judy Austin to the public. Bill Austin was manager of Mammoth Onyx Cave , which his grandfather had purchased in the 1920s. Peacocks and other small animals had been added to the park for visitors to enjoy on the surface in-between cave tours. A herd of American bison was added in the 1970s, followed by the Australian animals in 1990, and the park renamed to Kentucky Down Under.

4. Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Middlesboro
The Cumberland Gap is a narrow pass through the long ridge of the Cumberland Mountains, within the Appalachian Mountains, near the junction of the U.S. states of Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. Famous in American colonial history for its role as a key passageway through the lower central Appalachians, it was an important part of the Wilderness Road and is now part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Long used by Native Americans, the Cumberland Gap was brought to the attention of settlers in 1750 by Thomas Walker, a Virginia physician and explorer. The path was used by a team of frontiersmen led by Daniel Boone, making it accessible to pioneers who used it to journey into the western frontiers of Kentucky and Tennessee.

Pine Knot Cemetery - Will Government Take Alvira's Cemetery??

There are only 4 historic cemeteries left of the town of Alvira. 3 are accessible to the public. The 4th one is inside the prison fence. The government wants to expand the neighboring prison which would place the cemeteries inside the prison fence, making it inaccessible to the public.
The public is outraged. They are against this. They want to have access to their ancestors grave sites.
The town of Alvira was taken over by eminent domain early in WWII to manufacture and store TNT. 11 months later, the government realized they over-estimated the need for that much TNT and the site was abandoned......

Dog Slaughter Falls, Whitley County, KY

Dog Slaughter Falls is located on Dog Slaughter Creek, near its mouth at the Cumberland River. This curtain of water plummets about 15-20 feet. It is about a three mile hike round-trip from the second trail-head located on Forest Road 195, off HWY 90. The hike is easy to moderate difficulty. If you take the first trail-head near HWY 90, the hike is 8.2 miles round-trip.
