Woolwine is an unincorporated community in northern Patrick County, Virginia, United States. The western terminus of State Route 40 is here, at State Route 8. The community lies in the Rocky Knob American Viticultural Area. Two covered bridges are located in Woolwine: the Jack's Creek Covered Bridge and the more recent Clifford Wood Covered Bridge which is privately owned. They span the Smith River. The Bob White Covered Bridge , which also spanned the Smith River, was destroyed during flooding on September 29, 2015. Woolwine has an elevation of 430 metres . 1. National D-Day Memorial Bedford Virginia
The National D-Day Memorial is a war memorial located in Bedford, Virginia. It serves as the national memorial for American D-Day veterans. However, its scope is international in that it states, In Tribute to the valor, fidelity and sacrifice of Allied Forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and commends all Allied Armed Forces during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 during World War II.The memorial, bordering the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia, is an area of over 50 acres that overlooks the town of Bedford. It officially opened on June 6, 2001 with 15,000 people present, one of whom was then-President George W. Bush. About 60,000 people have visited the memorial each year. Of those, more than half are from outside of Virginia.

Road Trip #360 - Virginia State Route 8 - Blue Ridge Parkway to US Highway 58 (Woolwine Highway)

In July 2018, we took a trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we'll eventually be publishing that video--as soon as we have the entire parkway from end to end...this will require one more trip to accomplish. At the end of day 1 of our trip, we decided to divert to Winston-Salem, NC for the night. This was a big mistake, as we didn't realize that it would be almost a 3 hour drive from the Parkway. During this trip, we drove Virginia State Route 8, which later becomes North Carolina State Route 8. This interesting little highway twists and turns through the mountains and has some steep grades, and some of the best scenery we saw on this trip. Here it is! The weather was nice throughout most of this video with a short rain shower near the middle. Note the vintage Motel right off the Parkway, and abandoned buildings after we pass through the town of Woolwine.

Road Trip #361 - Virginia State Route 8 South - US-58 to North Carolina State Line (Stuart)

We continue along Virginia SR-8, heading south. SR-8 briefly runs concurrent with US Highway 58 East, and then splits away and goes through the town of Stuart. SR-8 doubles as US-58 Business into town, and then SR-8 makes a right turn, avoiding the town center. An SR-8 business route runs through the downtown area. After leaving Stuart, we continue all the way to the North Carolina State Line where we conclude our video.
